ARGO

It's the dawn of a new decade, the eighties at last! But, thankfully for us triple threat actor/director/producer Ben Affleck is stuck in a very cubby 70's vibe!

This was a good movie! I, sadly, do not remember any of this, even though I was plenty old enough. Really keeps you on the edge of your seat. I was a little bit worried there would be too much St. Jimmy bashing, but there was not - and the R word is not mentioned once, I don't think. ( he may be in some news reel footage - )

Many Georgia tie ins. The pride of River Road, the most famous almost Kappa Sig ever, Kyle Chandler as the late great Ham Jordan, and a big time shout out to Pace Academy!

Highly recommended!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN

SIX

Lullaby, the Seasons
Damien Hirst - 2002
Six days out - you think I would be more of a mess, and maybe I am - just a little punch drunk from the storm. I took about a week of total break from Media - got lost in a k-hole of the original 70's Upstairs Downstairs - and sort of loved it. Does neither my, nor Neil's - nor Koda's - blood pressure/ spirit any good to just hear talking heads drilling for ANYTHING to say about the coming event. Right or left.

What I have been tuned into a bit is the full out media blitz to demonize sweet little Nate Silver for doing what it is he does! " OUTRAGE " over this election not really being as razor thin as all the haircuts just so need for it to be. Luckily our man Nate has a sense of humor about it:

so what's all the fuss about ?

As I have asked many times on here - what am I supposed to do / think about these numbers. Even if we go over to HUFFPO and go with their numbers - which are no where near as rosey - UNTILL you dig a little bit - it still looks the same for the Ohio Senate Race.

Senator Sherrod Brown
Some 17 year old GOP clone dude

The polls that say Sherrod Brown is a shoe in are right, but the ones from Ohio saying the same about the President are wrong?? Oddly enough the ones from Florida that say Romney is ahead are just fine...
No one will cross party vote in Ohio.....

These next six days will move as slow as the week before Christmas for the average eight year old. Hours sort of whiz by as days take as least forever.... 5,4,3,2,1....

EVERYTHING IS FINE

All braced and ready Monday night, with the near panic ( with one exception ) from the tv weather guys - and close to nothing, really. No super high winds, no flooding - just a big soggy sort of mess. Our weather luck holds  - knock wood - as the Mendon magic holds.

Very tired of being slogged in here - feels like the sun has been gone for weeks, thankful that we did not get much and that it was not cold enough for all this rain to be snow.....

So so very many not as lucky. The BOSTON GLOBE has a pictorial.

Mickey.. I am your father....

Sandy : Tuesday, 11:37 am

For what ever reason , I can not post any pics to blogger right now...been that way all morning. Everything is very soggy but fine here - We did not even lose the internet, or power.

Will post more when I can....

Sandy 11:52

Still power , cable and internet here - not so for big patches of the greater Rochester / Fingerlake area. Winds still howling, and lots of sideways rain - too dark to see any damage.
Looks like NYC is getting hammered. Thoughts, prayers etc, for all those good folks.... hope hope hope the worst is over for us - I just tuned out tonight, watching stupid tv- so I have not seen any weather....

Full report with the sunrise - If I can.

SANDY 7:37

Winds are really gusting now - and the lights have flickerd a few times... fingers crossed... but we are as ready as we can be.

BRAVE NEW WORLD

I think Hurricane Sandy is the first BIG national news story to happen since I have been a facebooker - or more broadly, attached to social media of any type. News as it happens, not as ANY media wants to tell you - but everyone , everywhere is a live reporter.

A facebook friend posts that the wind has really picked up. It's all he can hear other than firetrucks , everywhere - something is happening on his block. He walks down the street to this:
 an hour ago :

GOOOOOOO DAWGS !!

Some kick-offs set for the next two weeks :

The #6 in the Nation ( but #1 in your hearts )
Georgia Bulldogs
take on the always well dressed Rebels of Ole Miss this coming Saturday
in Athens
3:00 SEC on CBS
always a good time for a kick off!
And a week later the Dawgs visit that loveliest village on the plain,
to hang with their cousins, who have not been feeling well as of late:
7:00 pm Eastern timeESPN2
Which I do not think is that good of an idea - gives all those War Damn Eagles too much time to drink - when they are all in a pissy mood anyway. Could lead to too much fighting.

Stranded at the drive in, branded a fool...

SANDY

6:08 pm
The weather today would have been, up until right now, just a really nasty cold blustery rainy day. But, the last half an hour or so the winds and rain have really picked up - just as it is getting dark, so we really wont be able to tell what's going on. We are under all sorts of warnings until tomorrow afternoon....

I made a big pot of chili, just seemed like the thing to do - and we have flash lights and firewood at the ready, don't really know what else we can do.... did not fill the bathtub with water... maybe I should - really don't see how a hurricane makes the water go off though.

So we sit and wait - if the power and internet stay on, I will keep you posted as to Sandy in Mendon - if you don't see anything here, know I am snuggled up in bed with a flashlight and a book - a fuzzy white dog and a husband.

WEEK 10

Time Flies!
Week TEN already! and look at half the BCS top 10!

But, with #1 playing #5 next week - will we all be there next week!
Notre Dame has #17 USC November 24th another decision game, and should the  icky old Trojans win, UGA moves that much closer... I mean, sure , we would / will have Alabama in the Dome, but  the day after beating the hatedgators anything is possible.
I know nothing about this Kansas State... a true wildcard in our way...Oregon has to play #11 Oregon State, #14 Stanford and #17 USC - surely one of them can take them out.
  1. ALABAMA
  2. Kansas State
  3. Notre Dame
  4. Oregon
  5. LSU
  6. GEORGIA
  7. FLORIDA
  8. SOUTH CAROLINA
  9. Florida State
  10. Louisville
  11. Oregon State
  12. Oklahoma
  13. Clemson
  14. Stanford
  15. MISSISSIPPI STATE
  16. TEXAS A&M
  17. USC
  18. Texas Tech
  19. Boise State
  20. Nebraska
  21. West Virginia
  22. Arizona
  23. Texas
  24. Oklahoma State
  25. Louisiana Tech

then we fed the homeless and had a smart dinner with friends...

TACO!!!

Man , is there going to be some property destroyed tonight...

Faith.

Yeah, I was lacking. " Let the big down drink " , starting early, because today was NOT going to be pretty. And it surely was not , OTHER THAN THE SCOREBOARD there at the end!No one could keep their hands on the ball as both sides of the St. John turned the ball over - over and over. NOT that it matters, our BULLDAWGS just held the #2 team in the country to THREE FIELD GOALS - holding on to win 17-9.

First full blown tailgate I had done in a while, but our pals were up for the game.
From the top, Chocolate Cake, Cole Slaw, Crock Pot BBQ, Pimento Cheese Sandwiches, Eggs , Olives, Mango with Lime and Banana Pudding.
In the middle are Dan and Grady's ( and Mrs. Louie Guess of Brookhaven, Mississippi ) Methodist Beans! I had had them before when Grady/Chip had made them, my first time doing so.

  • 6 strips of bacon
  •  Bacon drippings
  • 1 rib celery, chopped
  •  1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 lb. Ground beef
  • 1 can baked beans (Bush's? large)
  • 3 T. Brown sugar 2 t. Worcestershire sauce
  •  2 t. Coleman’s mustard (dry)
  •  1 cup of ketchup
  • salt and pepper to taste
Fry the bacon, set aside to drain. Brown the onions and celery in bacon drippings. Remove the vegatables and brown the beef in the same fat. Stir with a fork to make the meat particles separate. ,< make sure to break up the meat well > Return the onion and celery to the pan. Add the crumbled bacon, beans and the remaining ingredients. Bake in a casserole for about 45 minutes at 375 degrees. This may be prepared well ahead of time and baked before serving. - when I make this again, and I will , I will add a chili or something for heat, but that is just me. And they are better served hot....

Everyone enjoyed the food and it was lovely to  have folks to watch with. I have not checked other scores, will do so in the am to see where we should end up after this, the greatest victory in the history of organized sports!

JAX

WOOF WOOF

Rich and Amanda are here for a fast visit from NYC, with all the hopes of making it home on Sun / Mon with the horror of Frankenstorm bearing down upon us.

MOST happy to have someone to watch the game with tomorrow,
going full tailgate!

But seriously, in my carb deprived state, tonight was ALL about this cake!!

Yeah, I'm Old

But I'm all the happy NOT to be at the Landing tonight.

Lena Dunham: Your First Time

Indigenous People's Summer

Some Crazy.
A beautiful June day - it just happens to be late October.

Trail was just full of people today.

My Two Bishop Morning

A quick little breakfast for  - I'm not sure how many
  • Sweets
  • Deviled Eggs
  • Spinach and Mushroom Strata
  • Creamy Grits with Cheese
  • Fruit - with some YUMMY on sale Mangoes

This was good as well - bad photo but tasty casserole.
Maybe a tiny tiny too heavy a hand on the nutmeg..

THEN while they were elbow deep in Bible study, I hit the Cracker Barrel for my own breakfast with another Bishop... hence the name.

WORLD SERIES!

I like it!
Giants in five, But you sort of have to have a soft spot in your heart for the plucky Tigers.

DEBATE FASHION

Third and Final Debate!

We can get into the belly of the beast tomorrow, tonight lets focus on the women!

First Lady Michele Obama in Thom Browne.
The same dress she wore on night two of the Democratic Convention,
with the addition of the bow pin.
She looks lovely, fresh, young - just perfect

Ann Romney in Oscar De La Renta skirt and top.
She looks fine too.... very staid, very rich... what her people wear.
