It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas - Mendon 2016

Movie Wednesday.

Loving, Loving, Loving.

How many times here in the k+b have we talked about this case. There would be no Obergefell or Windsor with out these two brave souls. Everything that did come after wards for LGBT Americans did fall back on this case. Equal means equal, all means all and love is love.

This wonderful movie is of course a true story, but this film is based heavily on a 2011 HBO documentary on the Lovings. It does just about everything that a movie can do to stick to the real facts. Down to exact outfits, down to exact table settings, down to a very odd ( to my ears ) accent that must be from that 100 square mile of Virginia.

Joel Edgerton , who is Australian, and Ruth Negga, who was born in Ethiopia but raised in Ireland - just inhabit these two simple people. I don't use that word to in any way be a pejorative. The Lovings were simple ordinary poor folks living in rural eastern Virginia - who fell in love. Coming from what was a very diverse, for its time, community of poor people.. they did not understand the scope of their actions. Thinking no one would care what two simple folks were doing. They were wrong.

This movie does not sensationalize the case, or Spielberg up their poverty. It lays the lives out flatly of two people that you deeply care for, from the get go. Yes, Neil and I had a future dog in this fight, but , at least as portrayed in this film , were just nice people.

I was moved, Neil had a full on break down at the end of this.. that you KNOW is coming. Go see it, if only to remind yourself that this mostly happened within my lifetime. Since I have been born it was illegal for people of different races to be married.

As this looming darkness comes all around LGBT America, it will suit us well to remember Mildred Lovings words : " We may lose the small battles, but we’re in a big war. "

Happy Birthday , Dahn!

Thanksgiving night, one, two or thirty glasses of wine in, I , we all, the gods, decided it was a good idea for me to make Dahn's birthday supper. Which was last night. I tease, happy to do it and to get to see Myrte before she heads back to fire ravaged Tennessee.

Pear, Blue Cheese and Candied Pecan Salad
w/ citrus vinaigrette
10 of us, half as many as a few days ago
 The BDG

  •  Old Fashion Pot Roast w/ potatoes, carrots, onions, mushrooms and garlic
  • Horseradish Sauce
  • Green Beans
  • Cous Cous

So, David calls Wegmans and tells them he wants one of their round cakes, their ultimate cakes done as a birthday cake. " Happy Birthday Dahn " with balloons etc... like one does a birthday cake. They made this one.... seriously. Not a joke cake, what he got..
None of us really got to the bottom of why he did not tell them that it was a tiny cake and that he needed the big one, but it was ok, there were other sweets to be had , just a birthday funny, thats all...

Barney Frank has zero fucks left to give.

Daily Koda

A week ago we were fighting our first blizzard of the year, today it was sunny and in the 60's. Christmas is exploding all around , but the weather is not playing its part. Not in any way at all , no way no how , complaining.... We got in a nice long mile plus walk. Koda was having a good day, wanted to go farther, but I had things I had to get done.

problem solved

Drawbacks of not doing Thanksgiving at home... no turkey sandwiches. But I fixed that - got a Saturday priced deluxe Turkey and had my perfect trinity sandwich!

Week 13 - The End Times

FAIL
 28 - 27

Not going to lie, this one hurt ( stings ) and partly because it was unexpected. Going into the 4th with 13 unanswered points from the third, me and obviously the team thought this one was in the bag. " Where are we going to watch the Iron Bowl ...". The Nats had other plans - aided greatly by a foolish late in the quarter interception thrown on our part. Plenty of blame to go around... never ever a good idea to let your guard down like that. Stupid Jackets trash the hedges , yet again.

I've always really hated losing to Tech, in Athens or Atlanta. 1984, 1985. '89 and '90 - thinking they would always come in pairs until the dark days of 98 - 00, first three in a row since 61-63. Funny thing is I really enjoy going to games in Atlanta.

Kirby Smarts first year comes to an end. The only year that he will play 100% with Mark Richt's players - that can not be stressed enough. NOT making excuses for him ( even if I do like him so much more that St Richt . Both coaches going 8 - 4 their first years at their new jobs.  The only real bright spot of this season was beating Auburn, which is never something to take lightly - at least he beat one of the hated teams.

Low points were many, last second of the Tennessee game, ANY year you lose to Vandy, same old same old in Jax and then yesterday. Close your eyes and think of 1980 and next year. But I do have a good feeling .....

Saturday September 2, 2016 . The hedges will be fixed and we will welcome Appalachian State to between them.

WSB-TV's "Action News" At 6:00pm - January 23, 1976

This is a very fun little time capsule that popped up on my Facebook feed today. Miss Monica had a much higher voice and Atlanta was still a deeply southern city. Also, there is no mention of any sort of party strife in the covering of the Ga State Legislature .... since there was not any.

We Gathered Together.

Platter of various roasted fall squashed
w/ thyme and olive oil

HAPPY THANKSGIVING 2016

Cooking in one house, taking it all to the next, a little bit of a kerfuffle this year.. I had to go over early in the am to finish the table , and one last stop at the store. Back to the Parade and Dog Show while cooking , then over the river and through the woods.

Not really my best work, but I was a little stretched with 21 people and two tables.. but in the end came off fine.

A bit of a bee hive pre game, folks arriving, getting set up... hugs, drinks and snacks.

Drink of the day was Billini with fresh thyme
Cheese, Olives, Eggs, etc...
