Losing the battle, winning the war
You know, I really need to come up with a new name for these posts, cause we are no longer losing the battles. Hell, the war may even be over, and all these little NOM trolls and their ilk, are just those whacked out Japanese soldiers that stayed on those islands for all those years.... Anyway, from this past Sunday's THE STATE out of Columbia , South Carolina:
Gregory Maurice Smith and William Leonard Hasty III were married July 26, 2011, at Town Hall in Mamaroneck, N.Y. The 9 a.m. ceremony was performed by Christina Battalia, Town Clerk. Greg, 52, is the Executive Vice President, Human Resources for Denihan Hospitality group in New York City. He graduated from Tulane University and received a B.A. in English literature. He also received a J.D. from Tulane University Law School.
Greg is the son of the late Percy Smith and Daisy Smith Green. Percy Smith was a pitcher with the Indianapolis Clowns of the Old Negro Baseball League. He also worked for the Mobile County Public School System and retired after 20 years of service. Daisy Smith Green is a native and lifelong resident of Mobile, Ala.
William, 45, is the son of William Leonard Hasty, Jr., a retired State Farm agent, of Bishopville, S.C., and Marie Baker Hasty, an Office Manager, of West Columbia, S.C. William is the grandson of the late William Leonard Hasty, Sr. and Mamie Louise Hasty of Bishopville, S.C. William graduated Cum Laude from the University of South Carolina with a B.A. in English in 1987. He is currently a Homemaker.
The couple met in Columbia, S.C., in February 1984. Gregory and William were both commissioned officers in the U.S. Army. Best men for the wedding were the couple's two sons, Dudley Smith Hasty and Baker Smith Hasty.
The couple will honeymoon in Niagara Falls and reside with their two sons in Larchmont, N.Y.
Baseball, Army, two kids and a homemaker, HOW MUCH DO I LOVE THIS ?!? Old times were are SO freaking forgotten! Best wishes for a most happy life, fellas! ( and congrats on Larchmont!!! )

Zara Phillips, daughter of HRH The Princess Anne, Princess Royal
and Mark Phillips, and Mike Tindall, an English rugby player who plays Outside centre for Gloucester Rugby and has captained the England team.

Princess Anne and Mark Phillips made the decision when their children were born to take them out of " the business " and not give their children titles, and they seemed to have turned out wonderfully. Ms Phillips , like her mother is a very accomplished equestrian. She is the former Eventing World Champion, who won the World Championship in Aachen and was voted 2006 BBC Sports Personality of the Year by the British viewing public (an award her mother won in 1971).
Her dress was an off-the-peg ivory silk faille and silk duchesse satin gown by Stewart Parvin, a couturier to both the Queen and the Princess Royal.The dress featured a chevron-pleated bodice, a dropped waist, and a "cathedral-length" train, and was designed to create a "bell-shaped" silhouette.It was chosen from the White Room boutique in Minchinhampton, Glos, near her mother's Gatcombe estate - a low-key choice in contrast to the Duchess of Cambridge's Alexander McQueen design.The bride also wore a Greek Key diamond tiara given to her by her mother, the Princess Royal.
This was a private family wedding, held at the Canongate Kirk ( church ) on Edinburgh's Royal Mile.The couple had chosen to marry in Edinburgh because of Miss Phillips' strong connections to Scotland – she attended Gordounstoun School in Morayshire and spent many holidays at Balmoral, the Queen's Scottish estate.
I do believe that the date for this wedding was set before the Wales-Middleton wedding, and there was just no way for the second bride to not be compared to the BIG one, but the Phillip Tindall wedding held up on its on. That said : WHAT DID CATHERINE WEAR ?!?!?

OK, seriously , this has to stop! Life getting in the way of blogging, it's just not right! So sorry, lots going on here in Mendon and the specter of Nancy Grace arriving in big Winder and the United States not have a functioning government, it all just added up!

CAPTAIN AMERICA
I loved the movie, walking out, I said it was the best super hero movie I had seen since the second first Batman, I think I am sticking with that. Much better than the equally beefcakey Green Lantern, and just a better story than any of the X-Men. A little time traveling clarity with America = Good and The Axis = Bad.
When we were kids I think a new Captain America cartoon came out, because little boys all over North Winder were throwing trash can lids and those round plastic snow sled disks, that someone one had. If I had a complaint of the movie, it was it jumped to the future too soon, I would have enjoyed a couple of sequels set in WWII.

IT RAINED
After the wettest Spring on record, where after the snow melted , it just rained for the next six weeks, this Summer has been one of the driest on the books. This was the first hard rain we had in a month. So, I went looking for some Kay Starr, but only found some Mahalia Jackson. Well, there was some Vestal Goodman, but I went with the Mahalia. ( STILL have bad flash backs of that VG drag queen with the counter tenor...)

Our good pal Don represents his Church and works in a Homeless Shelter once a month, I guess the intown churches take a weekend a month of something. Out nation will go up in flames if Zillionairs do not get to write off their lear jets, but you know , these folks can fend for themselves!
