SEPTEMBER 17, 2009--In protest of the violent raid on the 22-year-old Atlanta Eagle bar on September 10, GLBTATL and members of Atlanta's LGBT community (and supporters) will be gathering in front of Atlanta City Hall on Saturday, September 19, at 12:00 p.m.

COMMUNITY OUTRAGED:

GLBTATL, made up of members of Atlanta's LGBT community, and our allies are highly concerned with the Atlanta Police Department in their handling of the police action against the Atlanta Eagle bar on September 10, 2009. We believe that no person, regardless of sexual orientation, race, or other aspect, should be treated in the manners alleged in the official complaints. We are further disappointed in the sluggish response from the Atlanta City Council, and particularly with the abject silence of Mayor Shirley Franklin. We join with other local and national groups in calling for an immediate, transparent investigation into the events. Should the allegations of improper police conduct prove true, the offending parties should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. As community leaders, we want it to be understood that our trust in the protection and dedication of Atlanta Police Department officers has been violated.

This is an election year in Atlanta choosing a new mayor and all and this could turn into a big deal . Statewide in Georgia the glbt vote means diddly, BUT, within the city of Atlanta there is some real voting power. Just ask our old pal Wyche Fowler .

This is the scene last Sunday morning in front of the UGA library, and stretched all over campus. For those of you not familiar with Athens or UGA, this is main library at UGA and is the anchor of a vista that is as pretty as any college. Old Campus, North Campus is the little part of the University of Georgia that looks like college with a capitol "C"; college as a verb. The Library to the Arch is lined with huge old oaks ( and a few Ginkos!! ) and the historic buildings that started UGA, ending up in downtown Athens. It really is a lovely part of the world.

Tailgating here is a relatively new phenomenon , that is, with in the last 10 years or so,and from this picture, I am guessing NEEDS TO STOP. Seriously people... bring a trash bag with you!! Almost speechless here....

"Protesters who attended Saturday’s Tea Party rally in Washington found a new reason to be upset: Apparently they are unhappy with the level of service provided by the subway system.

Rep. Kevin Brady asked for an explanation of why the government-run subway system didn’t, in his view, adequately prepare for this past weekend’s rally to protest government spending and government services.

Seriously.

The Texas Republican on Wednesday released a letter he sent to Washington’s Metro system complaining that the taxpayer-funded subway system was unable to properly transport protesters to the rally to protest government spending and expansion."

And they do it with a straight face, yall.....Why on God's green earth are we even pretending to listen to these fools?
