Went for the falafel, stayed for the Jesus

It was Honeoye Falls day or something
on Sunday, all the churches , except those snooty
Roman Catholics all had service together in the little park in town
A beautiful day, I was hoping there would be a falafel stand.
There was not.
 These planters line the street
this is just a normal photo, but
it came out very vivid...

 The little Mayberry-esque park

Dahn gave her usual wonderful homily
to the delight of the gathered masses.
There were a lot of folks there, you just can not
see the big tent of pancake eaters behind us.

 The falls of Honeoye Falls.
I often post pictures of them in the Winter all frozen
but they are lovely in the Summer as well.

Church

A lovely break last night from the angst of waiting waiting waiting, like Melanie for her baby that hot Georgia Summer. " Go ahead and scream, no one can hear you..." tick, tick, tick..

So, this has been our week for these FATHOME movie event things, which I just think are fantastic. Tuesday was a marathon of Neil's obsession THE LORD OF THE RINGS with like every added moment etc, on  the BIG screen. fun ( two and three in the coming weeks! ) BUT, last night was something truly special, and something that I really hope catches on.

My deity de jour NPH along with an all star cast, including Ms Lupone, in Stephen Sondheim's COMPANY. It was just a little quickie three day concert at Avery Fisher with the New York Philharmonic this past April, BUT recorded to show in movie theaters, this week. ALL the fun of Broadway ( sort of ) at a zillionth of the price!

It is a lovely very high spirited production, that was well attended at our local theater. The play, which was so out of fashion there for a bit is just the perfect gem of a time capsule. That perfect last gasp of an older New York, with hats and Ladies Who Lunch, ( The Colony? 12:30? see  you there ) With everything crazy that those mad cap Upper East Siders were going through in 1970....

See a musical all about Marriage after the week I have had ?? SURE!

I LOVE Indian AND Chinese food!!!

Heros

( ok, for all I know the guy could be a world class schmuck, but for Kyle , the single issue voter , he is our hero of the day )

New York GOP State Senator Roy McDonald, one of two GOPers to say they are for equality in NEW YORK. I believe his district included Pompanuck.

From the NY Daily News : "You get to the point where you evolve in your life where everything isn't black and white, good and bad, and you try to do the right thing," McDonald, 64, told reporters.
"You might not like that. You might be very cynical about that. Well, f--- it, I don't care what you think. I'm trying to do the right thing. I'm tired of Republican-Democrat politics. They can take the job and shove it. I come from a blue-collar background. I'm trying to do the right thing, and that's where I'm going with this."  In response to attacks from the Catholic Church. First and Goal, on the One

‎"Only second-class states have second-class citizens."
-Assemblyman Charles Lavine-NY AD 13

The last few days have just been a massive roller coaster for we truth and justice folk here in New York. After all these years of hard work , ( and I am in no way claiming to be a part of this, I am very much un-named man in crowd when the credits roll , but we know people who work diligently for the cause.) after all this time we are ONE SENATE VOTE AWAY from full on marriage equality in the third largest state in the Union. ( with #1 right on our heels ).

This is hard. The news comes in Chinese water torture drips. First the few wayward Democrats came on board, meaning every single Democrat except the one right wing religious zealot from the Bronx, will vote for marriage equality. Then in sort of an out of the blue moment, MY SENATOR, Jim Alesi, the one we have talked about many times here on the blog, comes out.... and says he is a yes! Followed yesterday or Tuesday ( time is running together ) by GOP Senator Roy McDonald from the Albany area... leaving us ONE vote shy of victory.

So , it is pins and needles time here in Mendon. You feel empowered and helpless at the same time. 2011, news and rumor travel at the speed of thought and this morning, there has been nothing so far. The bill passed the New York House last night for the FORTH time.. with the usual grandstanding on both sides. Mr Danny O'Donnell leading the battle, again. ( We ♥ Danny...). Today Mayor Bloomburg has gone to Albany to fight for the cause..... But the forces against us are strong. Where are we are fighting a local battle , the people that want New York to be a Theocracy are national and coming at us with big guns.

So, we wait, champagne and fireworks at the ready, but also with the resolve that even if we get this close and do not go over, that we are not going anywhere, and will be back to fight , another year, if we have too....but Please God, let this be the year we get to stop.
