THEME BLOGGING : Hoops in the Classic City
This time it's skirts.
![]() |
The telephones at every SAE and KA chapter in the country were dining off their hooks this past month as national fraternities made sure that all the local chapters knew the new rules : a whole bunch of shit we used to do , NEVER HAPPENED.
At dear old UGA the IFC and Panhellenic folk got together and quickly banned the hoop skirt - yes the hoop skirt. Back in the dark ages when I knew about such things, I think more than just KA and SAE had OLD SOUTH balls/weekends/parties - I know the Delts did, I think others.
All those South Georgia boys get to bring up their horses for the weekend put on the Rebel Grey and go from sorority house to sorority house picking up their dates in rented hoop skirts. 30+ years ago no one thought anything of it. Luckily folks have wised up a bit. I am more than sure that the poor girls are THRILLED to not have to do this anymore. UGA banned confederate uniforms years ago .
This was the UGA KA house the whole time I was in high school and college, the only photo I could find was from a party, but that car lot sized stars and bars hung their all the time.
Now, you think this would be a total non story to anyone that was not an ADPi sitting at UGA who was thinking about wearing mothers or grandmothers dress to the coming event but no! This past week this became cause celeb all up and down the right wing universe! OUTRAGE that Obama was taking away their right to _______ . Seriously page after page after page of comments from every reliable source about how horrible it is that in 2015 girls can't wear hoop skirts, if you have any interest at all in just how totally deranged that not even far right has become just google UGA HOOP SKIRT and go to any of the posts and read comments.
The majority of which are screaming how easily " black folk " are offended.... has me thinking they should be looking for that log in their eye.

ONE AND DONE
There is no joy in Charlotte, as the UGA Basketball Dawgs fall to the Michigan State Spartans in round one of the NCAA march to madness. I never really watch basketball, but the play offs can be exciting. We watched with some excitement as one of Neil's best pals and his wife are proud Michigan State people...
As a rule college basketball is a big deal here in this part of New York - Syracuse, just right down the thruway is a perennial powerhouse. But, this year all kinds of bad things happened to the Orange, and they took themselves out pre 64. The other way on the same road the University of Buffalo made the dance , but like UGA went out first game....

YES, IT IS MY BIRTHDAY
MOVIE
It was between this and RED ARMY - this one started first. I did like the first one - it is a very nice little movie, with actors that you love. Very randy older folk, with toned down Bollywood dancing - whats not to like.
Then dinner - with last night's soup lingering in my mind, I wanted some sort of noodle bowl - ended up at KING AND I - and I did not get noodles
Birthday Mango Lassi !
Meat on a Stick
There were some spring rolls to, but they did not make it till a photo
My Green Curry - Neil some kitchen sink wide noodle dish.
We used to eat here all the time, and I always got evil jungle prince, basically for the name, but it was chock full of those tiny round asian eggplants that I like so much, but this.. and I am not sure what it was called on the menu, the waitress just said green curry- was the best thing I have ever had there. Coconut sweet with some very spicy chili heat - exactly what I wanted !
Finished off with some white cake and mango sorbet!
