MOVIE DAY

I really dont care for the word important film, really - its still just a movie, but this is one that everyone needs to see. As of the moment as any movie could be - dealing with the questions that we all need to be dealing with.

What are the wages of war ? Who are we are war with , how do we as Americans deal with ... what it means to be an American , and in the case of this movie, a Brit.

You get to decide on your own for this film, it does not give you any answers. You know a little bit more ( but really not much ) than the characters , black, white and grey.  Leaving the theater I said to Neil that instead of the predictable debate tonight, I would have loved an hour long discussion of this movie between the two candidates.

OUR DAY

Left the hospital and drove by the HILLAY '16 offices.
At least we think it was, there may be a Hillary only office somewhere, but we knew where this one was from past calling banks.

 Got our yard signs!
Met out pal Don for lunch upstairs at Wegmans
 Thai Salad
 The View

Really too pretty of a day to go to the movies, but I was afraid that it was the last day that it was going to be at our theater, and I was afraid that it would leave tomorrow. We have a few more days getting warmer and warmer .

Seems like old times ...

Back in the radiation wing this morning. Nothing wrong, a one month after check in. For folks that were worse off than Neil or had issues with the radiation, a must. For us, we just chatted with the very nice lesbian PA. She and her wife are leaving downtown Rochester , where she could walk to work, and moving sort of out here to Pittsford. They sort of needed a ranch due to her parents age ...
An avid gardner , she will miss a few of the plants that she has to leave behind, then she and Neil listed all their favorites, and we all made plans to meet up at the Iris Party later this summer.

JACKIE ROBINSON

I hope you all got to watch this on PBS over the last two night, another amazing job by Ken Burns of one of my heroes. I leaned so much in this film, things that I did not know about Jackie Robinson. I do wish that Burns would have giving a tip of his hat to the fact that there are parts of this film that were already in his epic mini series BASEBALL. Not that it is that big of a deal, it is just that some of the guys from , the great Buck O'Neil have died since the making of BASEBALL.  Just a quibble from what really is a great documentary. It goes into the work that Mr Robinson did post baseball for the civil rights movement of the early 60's as well.

I had an obsession a couple of years ago with the " New York-ness " of baseball post WWII. I just could not read enough about the ten year period that culminated with Robinson and his Dodgers winning it all ( against the hated Yankees ) in the classic 1955 series.
The Yankees, The Giants and The Dodgers. Ebbets Field, The Polo Grounds and Yankee Stadium- all a train ride apart, all different little universes , just one of my little escape periods of time.

Check your local PBS station online to watch if you missed it broadcast.

Dinner

This was last night, but its fine because the kitchen was such a mess I did not cook again, so we had the exact same meal tonight!

Roast Lamb
w/ lemon and rosemary

Mashed Potatoes

Broccoli Rabe
w/ lots of garlic

KITCHEN UPDATE

Getting there for sure!
and this is very much a middle shot of these tiles .

Has to have one more layer of grout and then the big wipe down. Some border tiles etc.
The aqua wall is not staying..
The new color is this one, which looks bland as can be in this photo but its a warm buttery cream - looks very nice with the darker tiles and all the wood.
The grapes that have been there since we moved in are about to be on their way out. We were thinking about glass in the doors, ,but are just going to go with another fabric inlay, with just texture, not a pattern or photo.

AND YES, there are dishes in the new sink. When the guys put in the new counters they unhooked or broke the new dishwasher and the repair person is coming to fix it in the morning. Our goal is to be done by Friday.

Daily Koda

Today was one of those " if you dont like the weather, wait a bit ... ". It snowed, it rained, it was cloudy and it was clear blue skies. Warm while it was sunny, chilly on our walk tonight. The weather powers that be swear that we are going to get some spring time this week .... Could baseball be in our future ?
