Rain, rain and more rain has been the story for June this year. So after our daily afternoon monsoon yesterday, we, including all the tv weather folk, let our guards down - when low and behold around 9:30 or so things just went crazy. We were on the very periphery of all the bad parts, only getting a few gusts of wind and some more rain. The most lighting I have ever seen - the sky just stayed the hazy blue - for what seemed like 5 or 6 minutes.
We lost power for the first time in I dont know how long, not prepared at all - only out about an hour - and we had cell phones, but it was a bit scary - we did know there were tornado warnings out for our area. Only the second one in the 15 years I have lived here, in all of upstate NY.
