Art isn't easy.
Finished our pre Oscar movie going today
AMOUR |
Perfect for Valentines," Love " right?.... yeah.
Have lost a little of my once sterling art house street cred and am not familiar with film maker Michael Haneke. From the reading I did this afternoon, I don't I would care for his other movies.
This one - this movie - may be the hardest film you have ever sat through, seriously. Slow and claustrophobic taken to a French absurdest extreme. 99% shot in a fantastic, but not at all large ,Paris apartment with very static, set single camera - almost to the point of feeling like a documentary.
We meet our couple Anne and Georges out for the evening at a piano recital , shot from the prospective of the artist, the piano player, a very long shot of an audience settling in for an evening of music... your eye does not know at all where to land - and it last for a long time. It is just a screen full of people - none of whom we see again.
The aging couple come home and go to bed - as normal as .. anything. The next morning Anne has a .. sort of black out...and we go from there. We don't really know how much time passes during the film.
It is a nightmare, a horror story and like I said. Perfectly normal. MANY questions come out of it, and my eyes were covered more than once.
SHOULD YOU GO SEE IT ?.... gosh...
The two actors are shockingly good - you get lost in the film, but it could , depending on your life situation and timing, be way way to painful for you. Much deserved best actress nomination for Emmanuelle Riva - you so believe that she is handicapped.
Having a hard time shaking this film...
