From, I think, USA Today :
J.D. Salinger is coming to the big screen.
The late author of 1951'sThe Catcher in the Rye, a notoriously press-shy writer who rarely gave interviews, will be the subject of a new documentary,Salinger.
The film hits screens Sept. 6, according to The Weinstein Company, which owns the rights to the film and said Thursday that the documentary would be directed by Shane Salerno, co-writer and executive producer of Oliver Stone's Savages.
The film will include interviews with more than 150 friends and "members of his inner circle," the studio says in a release.
In addition, the film features interviews with Philip Seymour Hoffman, Edward Norton and Martin Sheen about how the author influenced their life and work, the studio says.
"Shane Salerno has created a haunting piece of documentary filmmaking in SALINGER," TWC Co-Chairman Harvey Weinstein says in a release. "We are in awe of the painstaking detail used in depicting a man who created truly timeless works of literature, but otherwise remained an enigma for so many years."
