THE POLLS - WEEK NINE

CLIMB EVERY MOUNTAIN.

Not quite the chaos of a couple weeks ago, but #2 did play #5 - and the clock struck midnight for the Cinderella Baylor Bears. Just another weekend in UGA's end run to the final four.

  1. MISSISSIPPI STATE 6-0
  2. Florida State 7-0
  3. OLE MISS 7-0
  4. ALABAMA 6-1
  5. AUBURN 5-1
  6. Oregon 6-1
  7. Notre Dame 6-1
  8. Michigan State 6-1
  9. GEORGIA 6-1
  10. TCU 5-1
  11. Kansas State 5-1
  12. Baylor 6-1
  13. Ohio State 5-1
  14. Arizona State 5-1
  15. Arizona 5-1
  16. Nebraska 6-1
  17. Oklahoma  5-2
  18. East Carolina 5-1
  19. Utah 5-1
  20. USC 5-2
  21. Clempson 5-2
  22. West Virginia 5-2
  23. Marshall 7-0
  24. LSU 6-2
  25. UCLA 5-2

Four out of the top five, half of the top 10 - Makes you have to wonder what save for some bad UGA luck in Columbia back in September what things would look like....
Alabama, after struggling last week with Arkansas, invited Texas A&M into Bryant Denny and beat them 59 - 0. Something about tugging on Superman's cape - allowing the Roll Tides to jump Auburn in the polls.
Notre Dame lost to #2 FSU but only dropped to 7, Baylor to #22 and tumble all the way to 12. ( they were very overrated to start with  )
The #1 Bulldogs had an off weekend, to just bask in the sunshine.

What all that means is that, it is not impossible for UGA to reach the promise land of that magic play -off, but with out some help last night from the fightin' Irish - it is one hard climb. Here is who everyone ahead of us has to play for the rest of the season.

Mississippi State Bulldogs
  • Kentucky
  • Arkansas
  • UT Martin
  • ALABAMA
  • Vandy
  • OLE MISS
Will the state of Mississippi be able to handle a double no loss Egg Bowl ?  Alabama looks to be all that stands in the way of that happening , at least from the Starkville perspective.

Florida State Seminoles

  • Louisville
  • Virginia
  • Miami
  • Boston College
  • Florida
Unless Miami has something going on this season that I don't know about - then FSU will end their season undefeated.

Ole Miss Rebels
  • LSU ( in Baton Rouge , at night  )
  • Auburn
  • Presbyterian
  • Arkansas
  • Mississippi State.
If Ole Miss can get out of Cajun country this weekend record intact then the game on Nov 1 in Oxford against AU will be one for the record books.

Alabama Crimson Tide

  • Tennessee
  • LSU
  • Mississippi State
  • Western Carolina
  • Auburn

LSU has got a tough couple of weeks coming up, two top 5 teams - will the purple tigers lose 4 games this year? Sort of doubtful - but who knows the way this season is going. Will Alabama lose to both schools from Mississippi - for I am betting the first time ever....still a lot of football to be played.

Auburn Tigers

  • South Carolina
  • Ole Miss
  • Texas A&M
  • UGA
  • Samford
  • ALABAMA
Will AU be a three loss team going into the Iron Bowl ? That wold drop them out of the top 25 probably - If they do beat Ole Miss, our game in Athens this year will be a BIG one....

Oregon Ducks

  • California
  • Stanford
  • Utah
  • Colorado
  • Oregon State
Yeah, I got nothing - seems like Stanford is sort of always good and the Utahs beat someone big some time... West Coast football, not something I know anything about . The powerbroker list makers would LOVE to have a one loss Oregon JUST for the geography of the playoff - a lone non southern team.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish

  • Navy
  • Arizona State
  • Northwestern
  • Louisville
  • USC
I don't even know if ND is in a conference anymore, I don't think they are for football - gadflies!.
Our only hope here is, I'm guessing, Arizona State or USC .....

Michigan State Spartans

  • Michigan
  • Ohio State
  • Maryland
  • Rutgers
  • Penn State
Again , clueless... seems like the big Michigan / Michigan State game is always a big deal and Urban's Ohio State can't be that big of a cake walk.... total wild card .

GEORGIA BULLDOGS

  • Florida
  • Kentucky
  • Auburn
  • Winder Barrow Charleston Southern
  • Georgia Tech
You want to think that AU is all we have left, but I know from many many years of experience that we can never ever take Florida for granted. They are horrible this year, they were humiliated last night on national tv - but once you get to Jacksonville, ANYTHING can happen.

So, not impossible, but will take a lot of help from other schools knocking off some top 10 teams, with out us losing ourselves. It has been a fun year so far, that is for sure!
