Movie Day

Shakespeare Fail!

A while back this movie was very chatted about all over the place - FASSBENDER'S MACBETH !
Marion Cotillard's Lady Macbeth - spot and all. I wondered why it had sort of dropped off the radar lately, thinking it might just be lost in the Star Wars haze we plotted off to see it this afternoon. What a massive disappointment!

Total, total style over substance sort of movie with RE-WRITES! 500 years was not enough for who ever took on the task of fixing that Shakespeare guys minor work, adding people and dropping everything that would not be the parts that I cover my eyes for in Game of Thrones. Which is what it reminded me and several reviewers of. No intrigue or story building at all, just lots of slow motion battles. They even for some unfathomable reason broke the soliloquies into little bits and dropped them all over the movie - just odd.

One other thing they did was limit the speaking for the first 10 - 15 min of the movie , its the big slow motion battle with witches ( who at NO point are over a cauldron - dont even say it ). And the thing is, it takes my ear a few physical moments to really get the rhythm of Shakespeare down, after that it flows like regular language, but you need a few lines to retrain your ear. You dont get that at all here - and just for added annoyance a good deal of the movie is growled not spoken.

We were just dazzled by Benedict Cumberbatch's HAMLET a few weeks ago and had such high hopes for this one, but were pretty disappointed.
