TODAY IN THE GAY

And it was a big one!

Really sort of a when it rains it pours kind of days, and in mixing my metaphors, came out of the blue. We started off the day by voting - full equality in New York, so a little bit of the thrill is gone on an off off year election , but came home to a BOOM! Full tilt marriage vote in the Illinois House today .

So down I went. You know how much I love this - all these years later NOTHING on their side has changed. You would never ever know from all the hand wringing , keening and moaning from the floor of the House that same sex marriage is a decade old in this country and every single boogie man that they brought up has been proved wrong -

So just like that 61 -54 , ONE vote to spare both GOP and DEM's brought the Land of Lincoln into the 21st century becoming the 15th state to have marriage equality. That would be the first, third and fifth largest states by population to enact the law.

As if that were not enough for one day Seattle, Washington elected an openly gay man as their mayor tonight
Mayor Elect Ed Murray and his partner of 20+ years
Michael Shiosaki
and good old Houston re-elected their out and proud lesbian mayor, Annise Parker to a second term.

In Virginia VERY Rabidly anti gay Ken " the Cooch" Cuccinelli, tea party darling put up a little bit of an early race - making me leave the sofa and come up here for some one on one with the NYT real time election site - but in the end Democrat and Clintionista, and pro marriage equality ,  Terry McAuliffe won.

AS IF all this were not enough right before bedtime on the east coast HAWAII after an exhausting week of the right wing nut jobs throwing everything but the baptismal font at their legislators, the bill to grant marriage equality got passed out of the two committees that it need to and will go to a " second reading " in front of the full house in the morning, and is pretty sure to pass - become state #16.

If/when it does pass the Aloha state tomorrow, with Illinois today, that will bring the % of Americans WITH same sex marriage to over 37. Seems to me that will be the tipping point.....
