Hell, I don't know what sort of performance art piece that was last night. At one point I expected dancing Osmonds to come out - as Mitts did his song and dance. Why the Chicago folks chose to sort of rope a dope it is beyond me - but wtf am I ? And wtf are all of the ripped cloths talking heads last night and this morning doing ALL the Thursday morning qbing ?!? The Obama campaign knows how to win, that is the bottom line.
Here is one issue not being brought up. This is a dull as toast race so far, and the American public has developed the attention span of a fruit fly, and the political media has the attention span of a fruit fly with extreme ADD...Since the tin foil hats dropped out of the GOP primary , there has been very little flash coming out of either side. Three networks have 24 hours a day to fill with words - and so last night AND last nights results are over hyped.
This was not Kennedy Nixon, or Reagan Carter or even Clinton Bush Perot - all of those important debates took place in the stone age of non super partisan politics and before the Everest of political speech that is out there now. When all you saw or heard of the two ish men were those three or four hours THEN they mattered - but now every baby kissed is ... well , everywhere! People can choose to plug in or not... and the few traditional hours, just do not matter as much.
I am not glossing over or making excuse for President Obama's performance last night... I don't get it. I don't know why he behaved the way he did - but what I do know is that HE KNOWS MORE THAN I DO or YOU DO or ALL of FOX/MSNBC/CNN /NYT /WAPO and all of the internts know... there are no flukes at this high stakes politics. I did not like it at all.. I wanted him to call Mitts out on ALL the massive lies and flip flops that he made/told. His call on that....
That same rabid media is doing somewhat of its job this morning - but if the story is MITTS WON, with out ANY fact checking, then that is .. dangerous.
We will know in two or three days what the damage was in the polls - No one expected the White House to stay SO very far ahead - the race had to tighten, but what you have to keep in mind is just how far the President is ahead - and go from there.
We can bitch about the format - and Jim Lehrer's lack of ANY sort of control - but again, so what - today is a brand new day. I do not want to like to a bunch of stories detailing the Romney Campaigns fantasy world last night - its out there for anyone that wants to read. There is one month left - two more nights just like last night and one with the VP and P. Ryan - speed bump, at best....
