SUPERBOWL PARTY

SUPERBOWL 48 !

And pretty much a super dud of a game! 300 - 8 or something, I lost track - ( aka was not really watching at all ) . I for one think that Mr. 15/20 billion Seahawk owner Paul Allen dropped a few million on the Manning foundation and bought his town a championship.

I did a chili bar again this year for David's party.

  • White Chili with Chicken and Hominy
  • Spicy extra Beefy regular Chili
  • Vegan Chili with lentils and black beans
Never really a fan of vegan chili's but this one was pretty good -

Black Bean and Lentil Chili

3 T. olive oil
1 large sweet onion, diced
2 stalks celery, diced
4 large carrots, diced
4 cloves garlic, minced
4 T. chili powder
1 T. paprika
1 t. chipotle chili powder ( I did not have this, and it needs it - just get a can of Chipotle peppers and add a couple )
1 t. allspice
1/2 t. cumin
1 bay leaf
5 – 6 C. vegetable or chicken broth
2 C. lentils, sorted and rinsed
1 29 oz. can tomato sauce
1 29 oz. can black beans, drained and rinsed
1 C. frozen sweet corn kernels
12 oz. jar roasted red peppers, diced
1 – 2 t. Tabasco sauce
1 T. honey
salt and pepper to taste
In a large heavy pot over medium high heat, add the olive oil, then the onion, celery and carrots. Sauté until the onions have softened, then add the garlic and continue to cook for just one minute. Add the spices next through the bay leaf. Cook for about two more minutes to get them fragrant.
Add the broth (start with 5 cups first, you may need an additional cup later to thin the sauce out), lentils and tomato sauce and raise the heat to high, bringing the broth to a boil. Once it boils, reduce the heat to medium low and simmer for about 30 minutes to get the lentils tender.
Add the black beans, corn, red peppers, Tabasco and honey and continue to cook for about 20 more minutes. Add the extra cup of broth, if needed.
Serve in bowls with the toppings of your choice.

A MUST
ALWAYS!
Our own personal puppy bowl, but not as active

VERY sad Rochester news.

Phillip Seymour Hofman
1967 - 2014

Local guy , very sad news.
Dahn and David live in Fairport, NY, which is really where his family is from, still live there. He was very good about coming back and giving back to the local community. Such a waste of talent. Hope that he finds some peace...

Some GOOD Rochester news

Rochester native , SUNY Postdam and Eastman grad Renee Fleming sand the National Anthem beautifully.

The young lady who did the accompanying ASL is a local NTID grad - all my deaf pals were very fired up about this..

and he will do it over and over and over.....

I'm sorry Dave ......

Computer woes go on , this is my first post via my iPad - and it's a bit of a pain . ( I am a fast typer , and the one finger thing is a bit much ) too bad too cause I'm a Super Bowl chili making fool today - three kinds . I'll take and post pics from David's party tomorrow . Neil will be home.

Heat wave of a day herd in the  finger Lakes - almost 40 degrees, rainy/snowy mix. First time in weeks to be above freezing.. Don't seem to be able to add photos here - back to the new normal tomorrow or monday

FIRED UP / READY TO GO deux !

Never too early, and really, come Wednesday November 5th, this is ALL you will hear for the next two years. The will she or won't she drum beat can only get ever more deafening. Fuel to the fire, today the Washington Post / ABC comes out with this :

"Poll watchers say this is the largest such lead ever seen at this distance from the election. Some Democrats are getting louder in their demand that Clinton officially state her intent as the window to properly organize behind other potential candidates gets smaller. The poll also shows Clinton leading Chris Christie by 53-41 in a head-to-head match-up. Christie's popularly has sagged in recent weeks due to the ongoing scandals in New Jersey."
 THE WHOLE POLL

As long as we are jumping ahead , let's just dive right in the deep end :
