Cult of Sarah

GOD! GUNS! and GAYS!

Dump day at the SCOTUS! End of session, schools out, schools out, teacher let the monkeys out! This is always a day to look forward too, and today was no exception. Some BIG ones came down the pike, lets jump right in.

PLANO INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT v.
SOME NUT JOB PARENT.

This one is a real head scratcher for me, I am guessing it is a TEXAS thing, but here are the facts, through the k+b filter. In the great state of Texas, kiddies in elementary school can pass out religious material to other students ONLY " before and after school, at recess, and at three school parties or at a designated tables ( middle school and secondary students could add lunchtime or between classes ) "
Re-read that , I'll wait.
So, during math class, little Susie , has the Texas given right to pass out religious tracks to little Hadassah, telling her she is going to hell ?? The Supreme Court today, said no.. that JUST " before or after school, at recess, and at three parties or at a designated table".... They did not even take this case , pretty easy to see why.

JOHN DOE v. THE VATICAN

This one is very straight forward, lets pass the ball to Reuters : " The nation's highest court, asked to rule on a U.S. appeals court decision that cleared the way for the lawsuit to proceed, rejected the Vatican's immunity appeal with our comment. The lawsuit, filed by a plaintiff identified only as John Doe, claimed that he was sexually abused on several occasions in the mid-1960's when he was 15 or 16 by a Roman Catholic priest named Father Andrew Ronan " the rest.
This one is cracking open a door that the Holy See was working SO hard to keep shut. We are talking deposing Pope Benedict himself. No one is above the law...

CHRISTIAN LEGAL SOCIETY v.MARTINEZ

Ok, this is the gays, we had , God and God, this one is the gays, well, the gays AND God. The University of California's Hastings Law School has a rule that all recognized clubs/organizations etc, have to be open to everyone. The all rich white guys club or the he man woman haters club, CAN exist, they just can not get funding or recognition with in the college. Sounds easy. Public tax dollars funding the groups, public ought to be let in.
Cue the Christians! We are here, you are queer, give me my check. Not so fast there fish boy. From the AP : "An ideologically split Supreme Court ruled Monday that a law school can legally deny recognition to a Christian student group that won't let gays join, with one justice saying that the First Amendment does not require a public university to validate or support the group's "discriminatory practices."
The court turned away an appeal from the Christian Legal Society, which sued to get funding and recognition from the University of California's Hastings College of the Law. The CLS requires that voting members sign a statement of faith and regards "unrepentant participation in or advocacy of a sexually immoral lifestyle" as being inconsistent with that faith.
But Hastings, which is in San Francisco, said no recognized campus groups may exclude people due to religious belief or sexual orientation.
The court on a 5-4 judgment upheld the lower court rulings saying the Christian group's First Amendment rights of association, free speech and free exercise were not violated by the college's nondiscrimination policy. ( THE REST )

I think this one is a big one, but I am all hopped up on caffeine and the Kagan trials so I could just be reading too much into it. Does this mean, that NO Roman Catholic or Southern Baptist group can be , in anyway discriminatory , AND get any college funding or recognition ??
Or .. well, any group at all, that is not fully inclusive ? Wow...
These will be the same Court that will be hearing the Olson/Boies prop 8 case. Wow....

McDONALD v. CHICAGO

NRA RULES! No city can ban guns, anywhere anytime. All guns, all the time, go go. go! From the NYT : "The Second Amendment’s guarantee of an individual right to bear arms applies to state and local gun control laws, the Supreme Court ruled on Monday in a 5-to-4 decision. The ruling came almost exactly two years after the court first ruled that the Second Amendment protects an individual right to own guns in District of Columbia v. Heller, another 5-to-4 decision." (
THE REST) Same old, same old.... blah, blah, blah. Money talks.....

KAGAN MANIA SWEEPS MENDON!

God, but I love C-span !

just because.....

The President and First Lady at the opening of the G-20, last week. Man, oh, man, but there is some VERY Un-Canadian stuff going on on their side of the lake! See more of Michelle here ( love! the shoes )

" How is it that we have lost all the battles, yet we have won the war? "

Dinner ( last night )

Yes, a little bit of a rut, again
but, BUT.. this is what is out there
right now. Veggies come in slower here in
almost Canada.
This being America, the tv remote is on the dinner table....

Time flies like an arrow.

Fruit flies like banana.

SUNDAY

Out and about, on the road early, waylaid by the annual giant ladies golf tournament -played by normal sized women - that was in between us and the airport.
Where we picked up a wandering band of deaf mutes and took them to the middle of nowhere to see if they could find their way back. It is ok, they have Jesus on their side.
On the way home from dropping off the deaf mutes, we stopped at BORGLUMS for DayLily-palooza '10. Nothing can really compare to how beautiful these very sweet peoples' farm is in the Spring, but today was just lovely. HOT for this far north, but still so nice . I wish this photo came with sound and smell-o-vision.
Orange
Three colors of clematis on the same pole
Kyle of the fields.
red
The New David. A man and his iPhone.....ommmmmmmmmmm
As we were leaving Neil , very casually , just told Mr. Borglum that he had bought a big Asiatic lily there last season , and the deer must have eaten it over the Winter, he went and got Neil another one, for free!
A very pretty oddly shaped hanging basket in downtown Canandaigua, New York.
But, there is no place like home!

SATURDAY

After all the World Cup excitement.. or not, we went grocery shopping and came home to Kyle and Koda's Saturday Night Dance Party Jamboree. Yes, that is me and the dog,out in the back yard, with 1980's jangle pop blaring from the ipod, with loads of beer.
Don't judge me.

FRIDAY

We went to a reading of Laramie Project, 10 Years Later. This was a benefit for GAGV or Marriage this or gay that, one of our groups . Very interesting. This play, or reading of a play, really lacks the punch of the original , but then again, it would. These were all professional actors, or at least real actors from GEVA, who are doing a real production this Spring. There were doing this over three nights, and this one was not ever well attended, Thursday night , had been a sell out, but it was beautiful out Friday night, so people were thinking happy thoughts.. I guess.
It was a good production/reading , what ever, and this guy on the left with the astro-boy hair was all the cute. I am glad we went.

There , now yall are all caught up.... more or less.

DADT IS OVER ??!?!?

Because I am no where near this gay.... NOT that there is anything wrong with it, I mean, MOST of my best friends are...
And I am now a little bit in love with both of them.

Jingoism can be fun!

USA! USA! USA!

This is, sadly, so so rare these days.

In our red state/blue state, Barack v Sarah, Jerry v GaGa world, very little brings us all together, but 2:30 on cool rainy Saturday afternoon in upstate New York, you can all but feel the whole country watching this. Pulling as one for something... at long last that e pluribus unum!

Sure , there are going to be some stick in the mud crazy types. The ones that rooted so hard against Chicago/USA from getting the Olympics, or the grand daddy of all the loonies that Beck fellow going off on some anti USA/soccer crap, ( wtf is it with the right wing and their " cramming things down throats ?? ) But , today is all about red, white and blue.... this buds for you, God Bless us all everyone type stuff.

Or Bill Clinton and Mick-freaking-Jagger sitting in the stands watching the game together. ( Early on, its Ghana 1- USA -0 )

Dinner ( last night )

brown rice
curried lentils with loads of vegetables
chicken ( for Neil )

USA 1 - Algeria 0

or as Andrew would say:
(pardon my French )

and the living is easy.....

Night starts on a bad note — McDonald’s won’t let Pinto and Otter bring in the Tequiza. Damn. Wanted to show Missus a good time. :(

For Kyle and Jim, with love and squalor

I'm right, and you are full of shit.

I'm just a little bit crabby today, not sure why. My sleep is mostly back on track now, which is a Godsend, but still a tad crabby.

Watch CBS News Videos Online

AND a great clip from the token homo liberal over on the Sarah Palin Network, BUT, for some reason I can not get it to load. Mr Shep Smith taking on some pile of doo doo in a suit, who is defending BP and telling us just how terrible, horrible, no good and very bad our Federal Govt is while at the same time bemoaning the fact that THEY are not doing enough.

I've just had my fill of finger pointing in this. The facts are the facts and NO BODY can do anything about this damn oil well. The ecology of the Gulf of Mexico is going to be changed for , at least , our life times, deal with it. The fact that YOU would have 19 conniptions if gasoline prices were where they should be, and not, as I said before, cheaper than Coca Cola is the reason. BUT, the talking heads and the GObP are going to make this ALL the Presidents fault.
My favorite outrage of the week was the group prayer to God to help us seal the damn leak. Like John Stewart said: [sic] " God put the oil a mile under the ocean , and then a mile under the sea bed, HE DID HIS PART to keep it from fucking up the coast", WE and BP did the rest. And now this idiot judge down in red state Louisiana who's deep pockets are lined with oil stock money, ( inc BP) has stopped the ban on deep water DRILLING. not a damn thing to do with precious oil production.. oil will still FLOW into the world from teh 3600 working oil wells in the gulf.:

Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

Our country, our Govertment, MOSTLY Republican, but plenty of Democrats as well, and I guess our whole way of life is owned lock stock and barrel by big oil, and I don't see anyone with the moxie to change that.....drill baby drill.

I bleed red and black

Mr. Long Tennis Game guy, proud UGA grad : John Isner, gets his woof, woof, woof on in his post marathon interview. Go you hairy dawgs!

Wednesday, June 23, 2010

HELL YES !!

If you had any question of why the oil spill is happening in the Gulf, right now, look no farther! As every good Republican Christianist knows, it is because Disney World has embraced the Devil, and opened their Harry Potter Land.
I am not kidding.
I'm not going to link, because I don't want it on my blog, but Wonder Joe has it over on the J.M.G. .

Mad about you....

drip, drip, drip.....

AMC is making us work for a MAD MEN fix, releasing the poster for the new season. Supposedly there are clues in this , " they " are saying. This doesn't look like the hotel room we left them in....
So, yes, a new office for Sterling, Cooper, Draper, Pryce , but no furniture ? Looks nice, Don has a corner office... looking to the right, hand in pocket.... clues, clues, clues...

Dinner

Tonight was brought to you by Absolut Brooklyn. Absolut Brooklyn, red apple and ginger flavored vodka. Absolut Brooklyn... when you feel your inner hipster coming on. A little cranberry, a little club soda.. and you too can be making some late night poor facebook decisions! Absolut Brooklyn.
I am nothing, if not all about my mise en place.
Helpful hits from the k+b, when all your wooden skewers are thrown in out in the great rodent diaspora of 2010, and you forget to buy more, you can use take out Chinese food chop sticks! Chicken, Beef, just with peppers and onions, don't your veggies with the meat, they take different times to cook, and you will have one raw and one burned.
Summer squash, zucchini, carrots, the tomatoes were already done
all done
Large plate of coos coos with onions and pine nuts and dinner was ready.

The movie of the night was the 1954 A STAR IS BORN, on TCM's " The Essentials " . TCM , or someone, found the original soundtrack of the movie, uncut and all, BUT , not a print of the film, so parts of the movie were just stills, with the sound . Very interesting.

" what is up with the stupid pancake mix video, Kyle ???? " " I just don't get it".....

Sigh.

Andrew Sullivan posted this on THE DAILY DISH yesterday, and it has gone pretty much viral. I think we are up to six re-posts of it on my facebook page. I can see how to some, a lot, most of you, it makes no sense, at all. Some obnoxious college kid yelling about breakfast food at some Sister Cindy type charterer , at some school, somewhere. Black and white America, or in this case maybe pink and white America. College kid screaming at bible chick is a Rorschach test.

Lets start this off with , how very much anti gay victimhood I am, and that may not make a whole bunch of sense in a few minutes, so you are just going to have to accept it as truth. I do not care if you do not like gay people. It is your right as an American to hate anyone you want. I am not even a big fan of hate crimes. Being charged with beating the crap out of someone really should be enough ( in all but extreme cases ). I think your church has the right to not want gay people in it, I think private clubs, etc, can pick and choose all they want. I think that the bile in your soul with eventually start to rot at you, and hate is hate, be it gay, black, female, Jewish, what ever and that is your right.

THAT SAID:
  • This week, The Bubba and Rick Show, some red neck hootenanny of a radio show that is heard all over the South, went OFF on the President for his June is Gay Pride, letter. They did this on you tube, but have now taken the video private, so I can's show you the out and out hate and ugliness that these guys put out there. I had never even heard of them, and they won't cross my mind again, it was just one example.
  • The TEXAS Taliban . The GOP in Texas has released its 2010 platform, and it is no different that the Taliban or Uganda when in comes to dealing with gays. We should be put in prison, just for being gay, and anyone in the great state of Texas who helps gays a little too much, will also be put in prison. DO READ THIS ONE.
  • This week, the closing arguments were heard in Perry v Schwarzenegger. The Gay Marriage trial in California. We have to fight, tooth and nail for something that Rush Limbaugh gets to do , over and over and over, and over.. you know, all of them under the eyes of God and till death do they part....
  • This week, Cynthia Tucker penned her oped in the Atlanta paper : Legalising gay marriage wouldn't affect traditional marriage. Just read a few of the comments.. fire and brimstone raining down like honey dew vine water....
  • This week, the Governor of Hawaii said she is probably going to veto the states brand new civil unions law, not marriage, just a few basic human rights that, you know, we as nasty gays, just do not deserve. Nor do the straight children of such sinful couplings...
This is all just from five minutes of typing, just off the cuff from things I have read this week, and yes, YES, I read way way way too much on this topic. I sit through a little bit of night time FOX news pretty often, " know your enemy" and all. Most of this is always just white noise to me, to us ( the greater GLBT us ), and with a big ole eat shit grin, I get to let all these lovely people know that my side is winning, but it does build up.
I know my responses to all of this, I have got my Barry Lynn, separation of church and state talking points down. I have read as much Jack Spong as anyone, and can let go with all my "what the Bible really says about homosexuality " fever. I can go verse by verse, and for ever abomination you toss out at me, I can come back at you with your poly cotton blend and your clean shaven , shrimp eating hell bound self. I have the technology, I can take you down..... but it is exhausting, and sometimes, SOMETIMES, yelling back : YOU AIN'T GOT NO PANCAKE MIX, gets the point across , just as well as talking myself blue in the face.
I am sure that this kid was just out having him a College lark, and in no way meant anything deeper by this. Back in my day, the stone age, mocking Sister Cindy and Brother _______ ( I cant remember is name) was a good time on a Tuesday morning. But this little video has struck a cord with a lot of people. In the world of the blind the one eyed man in king, and in the world of the anti gay crazies, sometimes you just need a little crazy back at them.
