AND... they did...

My Friend Chip's Facebook Profile

38 - 35
The not long to be #5 Bulldogs went down hard in a slug fest with the neighbors up 85, the #8 Clemson ( you don't get to poke fun at their name when they beat you ....) Tigers. They scored, we scored, they scored , we scored.... till be botched a short 15 yard fg, giving the Orange folk the lead....
Not the way the game ended, just how it sort of got away from us - we pulled with in three late, but no time outs and a missed offside kick gave the Daboites the W.

Faith Bulldog Nation  - a nasty way to start the year, but a long way to December!

Now, let's do what UGA fans have ALWAYS done, and just focus on the past! Here is a much happier UGA - Clemson game. The VERY FIRST game played under the brand new lights at Sanford Stadium, September 6, 1982 - when UGA won 13 -7.

This is post game. That stuff on my head is hair, and those things behind us are long playing records....

TAILGATE! TAILGATE! TAILGATE!

At the northernmost outpost of the
Bulldog Nation

The Flag is out and will stay out
( I am writing this post game )

 Pre Game.
This table cloth is OLD, and I washed it today,
very gently - Some of the stains were, I bet , from the Dooley era...

  •  Pimento Cheese Sandwiches
  • Deviled Eggs
  • Tomatoes w/ Basil Oil
  • Watermelon/Feta Salad
  • Cole Slaw
  • Chips
  • Slow Cooker BBQ

slow cooker bbq

The classic tailgate dish, and so easy to do - makes the house smell wonderful all morning - you just have to get it in early...
watermelon and feta salad
I LOVED this, I don't think Neil was as wild about it. Loved the combination of tastes and the coolness of the fruit - a great addition to a still hot tailgate.
It is sort of Nigella Lawson's recipe, but I did not follow it 100%, so just use as a guide. The red onions soaked in lime juice are GREAT , and could be used for so many things....

  • 1 small red onion
  • 4 limes
  • 3.31 lb watermelon (sweet and ripe)
  • 8.83 oz feta cheese
  • 1 bunch fresh italian parsley
  • 1 bunch fresh mint (chopped)
  • ¼ cup extra virgin olive oil
  •  cup pitted black olives
  • black pepper

  1. Peel and halve the red onion and cut into very fine half-moons and put in a small bowl to steep with the lime juice, to bring out the transparent pinkness in the onions and diminish their rasp. Two limes' worth should do it, but you can find the fruits disappointingly dried up and barren when you cut them in half, in which case add more.
  2. Remove the rind and pips from the watermelon, and cut into approximately 4cm / 1½ inch triangular chunks, if that makes sense (maths is not my strong point). Cut the feta into similar sized pieces and put them both into a large, wide shallow bowl. Tear off sprigs of parsley so that it is used like a salad leaf, rather than a garnish, and add to the bowl along with the chopped mint.
  3. Tip the now glowingly puce onions, along with their pink juices over the salad in the bowl, add the oil and olives, then using your hands toss the salad very gently so that the feta and melon don't lose their shape. Add a good grinding of black pepper and taste to see whether the dressing needs more lime. Hava Negila! The taste of Tel Aviv sunshine!

tomatoes w/ basil oil
Again for a late summer tailgate, just perfect and easy as can be, a hand full of basil in the blender, one small clove of garlic ( I did add a little parsley, because I had some , but you don't have too )  - a little water if it won't blend and pour over seasoned fresh tomato slices ! Summer come to Football!
Fresh Peach Dumplings

The very Winder desert w/ apples made with fresh peaches. You know it, butter sugar and a can of Sprite or Mt. Dew poured over crescent roll covered fruit. I did cut WAY back on the sugar - like less than half of it - my peaches were perfectly ripe and very sweet, not like when you make it with a tart apple, and covered the tops with cinnamon... always yummy

WRONG SPORT, KYLE !

I really hated this late kick off today - just did not know what to do with my day - at least not one this long. Watched the Texas a&m - RICE game, rooting for my pal Dr. Tinklers alma mater ( to no avail and Johnny Football is a real ass! ) Then just sort of flipped all around till Neil though I should go downtown at get us tickets for the penultimate REDWINGS game tomorrow - so we can get there early and wait in line for a bobblehead.....

Rochester seemed like a ghost town after all the excitement on tv!

Sometime in January.....

Something I had never heard before !

Ginsburg will be first justice to officiate at same-sex wedding

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg will become the first Supreme Court member to conduct a same-sex marriage ceremony Saturday when she officiates at the Washington wedding of Kennedy Center President Michael M. Kaiser.
The gala wedding of Kaiser and economist John Roberts at the performing arts center brings together the nation’s highest court and the capital’s high society and will mark a new milepost in the recognition of same-sex unions.... ( the rest )

All married, same-sex couples in the U.S. will receive federal tax benefits previously given to just heterosexual couples, the Obama administration said on Thursday.
The ruling applies even to gay couples who live in states where their union is not recognized -- so long as they were married in a state that allows same-sex marriage.
"Today's ruling provides certainty and clear, coherent tax filing guidance for all legally married same-sex couples nationwide." said Secretary Jacob J. Lew in a statement. "This ruling also assures legally married same-sex couples that they can move freely throughout the country knowing that their federal filing status will not change."
The U.S. Treasury and Internal Revenue Service announcement comes on the heels of the landmark Supreme Court ruling in June that said same-sex couples are entitled to federal benefits. The ruling struck down the 1996 Defense of Marriage Act that blocked federal recognition of gay marriage.
The ruling applies to filing status, personal and dependency exemptions, standard deduction, employee benefits, IRAs, earned income tax credits and child tax credits, according to the Treasury Department and IRS statement.
The ruling does not apply to those in registered domestic partnerships or civil unions.
Thirteen states and Washington, D.C., have legalized same-sex marriage as of August: California, Delaware, Connecticut, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Washington, Vermont, Rhode Island, New York, Minnesota and New Hampshire.
Several Native American tribes and some counties in New Mexico have also allowed marriage licenses to be issued.
Before Thursday's ruling, same-sex couples that had married had to declare themselves as "unmarried" on federal income tax forms. The Human Rights Campaign, a civil rights organization, said that cost the average same-sex couple more than $1,000 a year in additional taxes. It also meant that gay couples could not inherit property without it being taxed.
"No family should have to worry about losing important federal rights and benefits, simply because they live in a state that doesn't recognize them as equal under the law," Chad Griffin, president of the Human Rights Campaign, said in a statement.
In the anti-marriage camp, Brian Brown, president of National Organization for Marriage, denounced the ruling in a statement.
"The Treasury Department is grossly overstepping its authority," Brown said. "The Obama administration is intent on forcing same-sex marriage on an unwilling public."

One for the Ladies -

very sweet

Late Carter, Early Reagan

Kyle and Neil in stripped shirts ,
at the RED LOBSTER
my soup, my salad - Neil's coconut shrimp
of which I had a couple

I have not been to a Red Lobster since, I would guess 1981 in Athens - I bet the only Red Lobster I have ever been too. My folks and I used to go pretty often, it seems like. There was no fried Captains Platter on the Menu,( not a fried oyster to be found!! ) so I went some prefix meal that was really very good - so good I forgot to take pics! Neil went the whole nine yards with lobster , scallops , shrimp.. all broiled..

DREAMS

Today , for me - was a little overwhelming on so many levels -  So many of my personal heroes all in one place. So much history - so much emotion. That day , that movement - was all so wrapped up in Atlanta - still so today with many Atlantans/ Georgians speaking ( including Laura Turner Sydel ?!? ) Not claiming to have ANY sort of memory of this day or even of the next 10 years really - as far as MLK and the Civil Rights movement - but aware now.
( if you missed it )
Andy Young, my hero John Lewis, Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton , the President and First Lady... more. Lots of LGBT included, Bayard Rustin at last celebrated for who he really was,  Caroline Kennedy ( I wish one of the Johnson daughters would have been there ) Governor Martin O'Malley ( a good sign for those of us who want him as Hillary's VP ) many more.

Just an amazing photograph
Two more wives and my head ( and heart ) would have exploded

 so much history

DC 2024 !!

Again, it is HESTER BATEMAN - Macy's

(h/t JMG via WAPO ) :

"People who think I’m gay, some part of me thinks it’s wonderful. Because I want to challenge people on their homophobia. I love seeing on Twitter when someone says I’m gay, and I say, ‘So what does it matter if I am? So be it. I hope you are not voting for me because you are making the presumption that I’m straight.’" - Newark mayor and Senate candidate Cory Booker, speaking yesterday to the Washington Post.

WHAT is going on in NEW MEXICO ?!?

THE GAY IS BREAKING OUT!
all over!

From the Santa Fe New Mexican : " The floodgates have opened. Same-sex marriage has started in Santa Fe.
In a historic move, Santa Fe County Clerk Geraldine Salazar began issuing marriage licenses Friday to same-sex couples following an order from state District Judge Sarah Singleton that said Salazar should immediately start issuing the licenses or appear at a court hearing to show good cause why she shouldn’t.
The Clerk’s Office began issuing the licenses around 2 p.m. Friday.
By about 5:30 p.m., 45 same-sex couples had been issued licenses. The office stayed open for about an hour and a half longer to handle the line of gay couples coming to get licenses.
There was almost a party atmosphere at the County Administration Building as couples lined up to get marriage licenses — the first time in New Mexico in which the issuance of such licenses was backed up by a court order. Friends and loved ones hugged one another in the hallways, while some of the couples decided to get married right away in the County Commission Chambers upstairs."

hey hey hey

Everybody say " meh "....

No not really, I think it's a HUGE deal - the " real world " will sleep right through it:

via JMG : From WALMART :" This week our associates will receive a pre-enrollment postcard at their homes announcing the dates for annual enrollment and providing highlights of the 2014 benefit offerings. Among the information highlighted on the postcard: We will cover domestic partners in the medical, dental, vision, life, critical illness and accident plans. This means Walmart will offer these benefits to an associate’s same- or opposite-sex spouse or unmarried partner. For details on who qualifies and some important tax considerations, you’ll find more information on WalmartOne.com/postcard."

The countries largest private employer will honor your wedding vows - now I am assuming that is in what ever state in the country - live in Ga, work at Walmart? Come to Mendon, we have a lovely Wedding Chapel and we'll make you lunch afterwards......
