FASHIONISTAS

Coffee and oil covered brown pelicans... I just can't do it much longer. I am a moth to the flame when it comes to the news . "UGH! why cant we have the PBS news FIVE hours ??". But I am trimming my addiction, because, really.. I just can't do the sick animals. Sure , blown up people , all day long.. that one little sad hermit crab, and I am under the covers with the bag of nutter butters.

SO! Something happy ! WHILE being able to judge rich thin people, really it's win win:
The Council of Fashion Designers of America
had their award show last night.

Yes, I know, you had no idea there was such a thing, it's fine. The TONY'S are this Sunday night.. just a heads up, turning you all a little bit gay, one post at a time. SO, lets dig right in.

Womenswear Designer of the Year – Marc Jacobs
Menswear Designer of the Year – Marcus Wainwright & David Neville for Rag & Bone
Accessory Designer of the Year – Alexis Bittar
Swarovski Award for Womenswear – Jason Wu
Swarovski Award for Menswear – Richard Chai
Swarovski Award for Accessory Design – Alexander Wang

Eleanor Lambert Award - Tonne Goodman, Vogue

Eugenia Sheppard Award - Kim Hastreiter, Paper
Board of Directors’ Special Tribute - Alexander McQueen

First Up: The Doctor will see you now.

The micro-micro mini. This look has been out in the real world for a while. Last Summer on a visit NYC I noticed all the pretty young things were wearing waistbands and boots. Fine for walking, made me a little bit uncomfortable on the subway. One the left we have actress Molly Sims in a DKNY mini dress, on the right " LOST " actress Maggie Grace. I don't really have a clue who either is, but Ms. Sims is doing the short look correctly... save a little bit for your wedding night, Ms. Grace.. or at least for a room where there will at least be one straight man. Too , too , too short ...

Round Two: Night and Day.

Something else all the swells are doing these days. What would have been a very day time look in the past, as formal night time wear. A sort of reverse snobbery, I suppose. The Queen of Vogue, Anna Wintour in I do not know yet, and Rachel Weisz in Jason Wu. Just like SJP we are not allowed to have a disparaging opinion of Ms. Wintour, it is a footnote in the handbook, but even with that rule, this is day for night done right. A little sparkle, a bright print, it just looks fresh. Sure ,Jason Wu is a fav of the First Lady, but this dress, as cute as it is,and as good as Rachel Weisz looks, is just too Ladies Who Lunch for the event.

Third: M.O.B on the Red Carpet.

British TV presenter ( ???) Alexa Chung in Marc Jacobs and Our Miss Brooks in I do not know yet. Ms. Chung just looks a little dazed, but by the look of the shoes she is wearing ,she has some sort of square dancing event after this dinner. Bad dress, bad shoes bad hair. Nothing really wrong with Brook, she just looks... well, Mother-of-the-Bride, for no real reason. It is a pretty dress, just add some color.

CLEAN UP : BATTLING GODDESSES

Gwyneth in Michael Kors
Sarah Jessica in Alexander McQueen

The two men of the night, and their divas. Mr. Kors, with Mrs. Martin as his date, received a life time achievement award from the CFDA's, and Mrs. Broderick paid tribute to her friend, the late Mr. McQueen. Both look exactly as they should. I am not a huge fan of Gwyneth in black.. but that is just because everyone will forever be stuck on her pink Oscar dress. She looks wonderful and it is Michael Kors at his best, clean, American, fit. As close to perfect as it gets
That said, I like SJP better. Look at the movement of the dress, it is Summer, its new, its is McQueen/Carrie Bradshaw bohemian ( you know, hippy at a few ga-zillion dollars..) I just love it. One of the top looks of the night. Sarah presented Mr.McQueen's final collection for the gathered.

Finale : Queen of the Night.

As the PR boys would say : " BOW DOWN "
Iman, seen here with long time husband, David Bowie, was given a well deserved FASHION ICON award last night. This past Sunday the NYT ran a retrospective of the now and forever supermodels career.
Since being discovered by Peter Beard to becoming the muse for so many designers to now, she always looks fantastic..iconic, even! Seen here in Gianbattista Valli.

Now, wasn't that a nice break from the gloom and doom??

Laughing out loudly! "I just can't do the sick animals. Sure , blown up people , all day long.. that one little sad hermit crab, and I am under the covers with the bag of nutter butters."

Sadly, I can't remember the last time I had a nutter butter. And I am suffering from too much negative news as well.
