Golden Globes : Fashion

Let's just start off with THE bang... the eat-dessert-first school of thought:

AND the winner is :
Taylor Swift in
Donna Karan Atelier

I really do not know that much about Taylor Swift, why exactly she generates so much ill will on the interwebs. Seems like a nice enough girl to me. But this is not about the person, but the dress. FANTASTIC.
  • it is NOT black lace, or any lace, at all
  • Warhorse of a house, Donna Karan, turning out a VERY fresh and youthful dress for a youthful woman,
  • Fit, which would have to be perfect on a top that is , well, this small, with out going in any way over the top , color, length everything about the dress is an A+
  • Ear rings are perfect here in the land of no accessories , even the hair in a night of horrible hair is great with the gown
Well done young Padawan!

Runner Up:

 Lucy Liu
in Carolina Herrera

Stop with the hating, you are just wrong. No curtains, no sofas, no grandma. What this is is a beautiful dress from one of my favorite designers. AGAIN, bucking the trends, or making them herself. Yes, ignore the hair, which goes a little Hameau de la Reine when she should have stayed pure Versailles. She looks beautiful and the dress is not wearing her.... all around A.
Jump into this entire collection for a big does of pretty in your cold Winter day:
( I think this made the k+b before )

( please let some lady star wear the polka dot dress next month )

The Court
( all still very good )

Anne Hathaway in Chanel
Perfect dress for her last night. Had she not been the likely winner, had she not been in take-me-as-a-serious-actress mode this virginal ingenue look would have been too severe, right dress on the right woman at the right time. I bet in real life the detailing is perfect

Helen Hunt in Dolce&Gabbana
She is nominated for a movie where she is really really naked a great deal of the time and comes in owning it. I'm so not a fan of the no color/flesh/blush trend out there, but this is done so right. She looks amazing, for any age. SEE: Amy Adams for same look/trend done horribly wrong.

Helen Mirren in Badgley Mischka
She can just do no wrong. Looks over the moon good. So perfectly at ease.
Master Class.

Jodi Foster in Giorgio Armani
( Ms Foster always wears Armani )

That loud sound you heard this morning was , for what ever reason , the collective gay media loosing its collective gay shit over what ever that was that our little Jodi did last night. Andrew Sullivan , who has not been well of late, all but busted a vein this morning getting way over worked about it, so so many others are with him. Let's US just focus on the dress.
As someone on twitter said last night " Jodi's real courage was coming out as a 50 year old last night, not as a lesbian." Yeah well, 50 is the new fuck you when it comes to Jodi Foster and this dress. She looks amazing .

Honorary Mention

Julliane Moore in Tom Ford
Very nice, hair a bit too star trek,
and there was something about the back...
Jennifer Lawrence
in Christian Dior Couture

How do you not like a red Christian Dior Couture dress on the red carpet ? Just sort of the wrong dress on the right girl on the right night. Top is just over worked and the fit or shape is just odd. Knowing she was a likely winner should have not gone full on trend with red on the red carpet.. BUT, she is here JUST for saying  : " I beat Meryl ".... Working a major girl crush here....

Kate Hudson
in Alexander McQueen

This is a great dress, and with all the folks on the red carpet talking about how they were all freezing in the California cold ( mid 50's ) Kate called their bluff and came dressed season appropriate. Love the blond tresses with the gold. Always happy to see McQueen on the RC, but she is here for " trend done right ". Let's call it  the Armour look. Kate's is baby bear just right where as these ladies went papa bear too far:
Michelle Dockery in Alexandre Vauthier Couture
&
Kristen Bell in Jenny Packham
WTF ?

Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad

The gofugyourself girls call it the " naked woman in the snow " look. I just want to know what is holding it up, and if in involved a hot glue gun.

THE UGLY :
( ok, maybe not ugly, just my least favorite of the night )

Jessica Chastain in Calvin Klein
Huge disappointment. Again, it was HER NIGHT - and she chose to shoe up looking like she was hiding bags on nickels in her dress..... Hard to even see this as Calvin Klein. Hair is off as well. Jessica is going to need some new gays before the Oscars. The color is nice- but would need more of the red hair to pull it off.
 Rachel Weisz in Louis Vuitton
No, make it stop. I very much like her as well, but horrible.
 Sienna Miller in Erdem
Twee to the extreme. I do get the look that she is going for.. sort of Twiggy in 2013, but it fails, hard. Try harder.

Amanda Seyfried in Givenchy
Shapeless, colorless, pinned ?!? - in the winning movie of the night and a BEAUTIFUL young woman - fail on every level.

Make sure, as always to spend some time with
TOM and LORENZO!
and
The NYT has good pics....
