Take Me Out -

The soon to be Smyrna Braves released some artist renderings of the coming new park today.

I really did, even after the initial shock think this was all just a ploy to get the city of Atlanta to pony up some tax dollars for something - I'm not sure what. The top photo and the yellow on the map will be the entertainment street there at the new mega park, bars, restaurants - shops ? Which I just don't get - are people doing all of this before or after the game? Maybe during - who knows.
And I know with the " city element " taken out of the equation that money will just flow down like manna from heaven, but it costs A LOT to go to an MLB game. I am real sure that the old AFC Stadium/ Turner Field rule of being able to bring in food will be long long gone from this one - but to spend that sort of money AND THEN stay and party at a bar/restaurant ??? I just don't think Atlanta has that culture.
Also, and this is such a minor part of the whole Atlanta Braves fan experience , but there is NO TALK OF BASEBALL in this whole freaking thing. The game, the team , etc. Sure having a new shopping mall there in Cobbco will be great, but how about a really good starter to replace Tim Hudson .
I have become SPOILED over the last decade by the purity of AAA baseball, and we do have a wonderful park here in Rochester - as is the one in Buffalo. None of this mall bullshit or the " fan experience" , in AAA it's all about the game. Keeping with AAA the Atlanta Braves organization proposed / promised the exact sort of " mixed use retail " all around the Gwinnett Braves stadium as well - and as far as I know there is NOTHING

Lastly, I should just REALLY ( really ) stop reading the comments on any of the AJC's stories on the Braves - people with no faces or anything to lose feel free to say what ever they want and you get lovely statements like this one:

It's not just about being afraid of the savages downtown... Why take your family down to that 5#hithole around Turner Field?? There's NOTHING to do down there, plus you gotta deals with the panhandlin' ghetto thugs wanting a dolla for this or for that.
