OSCAR ! OSCAR !! OSCAR !!!

Happy Day After!

  • Best Picture : 12 Years a Slave
  • Best Director : Alfonso Cuaron  / Gravity
  • Best Actress : Cate Blanchett / Blue Jasmine
  • Best Actor : Matthew McConaughey / Dallas Buyers Club
  • Supporting Actress : Lupita Nyong'o / 12 Years a Slave
  • Supporting Actor : Jared Leto / Dallas Buyers Club
No real qualms with this outcome - I was so hoping that Dame Judi Dench would get the best actress nod for Philomena , but the Academy went with Blanchett, and she was brilliant - I just thought Philomena was a better film.
I also thought that 12YAS had some real issues as a film. not as a story, but just the hard tacks of making a movie. I have not found the book yet - but from everything I have read online , what happened after Solomon was freed as the really interesting part of the story.

BUT! Why you really came today.

BEST DRESSED OSCAR 2012

LUPITA NYONG'O
PRADA
Me and most everyone else ( Fashion Police went with Blanchett ) picked this as best dressed, and I think it will go down as an all time favorite Oscar dress, one that will be remembered. A rarely seen red carpet color, the robins egg/Tiffany/Nairobi blue against her beautiful dark skin tone is just perfect. You could not really tell on tv or photos, but the bottom is loaded with sparkle
There was some complaining of just how low the V is in the front - but this is her body shape - It is something different, that we are not, in siliconed America - used to seeing , but it just makes the dress that much more lovely

I went back and forth on my #2 pic -
SANDRA BULLOCK
ALEXANDER McQUEEN

This just struck me as a perfect movie star dress. " yeah, I've already got one of these and am up for another ". A grown up dress that makes her look fantastic. Simple, yes, but with enough flair to see her a being beautiful, not wow, look at that dress.
soooo very close to #2
CHARLIZE THERON
CHRISTIAN DIOR
&
HARRY WINSTON
Just as close to perfect as any Oscar red carpet can get AND some interest in the old school OLD SCHOOL style dress. Now it helps if you are one of the most beautiful people ever to walk the face of the earth, but she brings more to this look. AND thank goodness she cared enough to get loaned the GOOD STUFF and wore that ROCK to balance out the rest of the dress
Maybe I was just in a basic mood ...
AMY ADAMS
GUCCI PREMIER
I did not like this one at first, but was talked into it, and now have it in the top 5. Pretty basic dress, but this is all about the fit. Perfect fit can elevate even the most simple gown to - well perfection. Do love the bang of color with the ear ring, but this needed a trip to Harry Winston like Charlize did. Something this straight forward could take the full Elizabeth Taylor - and some jumbo emeralds with this dark blue and her red hair would have made this something out of this world.
A Surprise :
JUNE SQUIBB
TADASHI SHOJI
I very much wanted Ms Squibb to win the Oscar and just love the way she looks here. NOT a 20 something sample size - she still looks fantastic and very fashionable. Way way to often non cookie cutter ladies go for shapeless black tent dresses - this one is perfect and makes the list as how it can and should be done.

The Divine Miss M makes the list a) because she looks fantastic, love everything about this AND she brought some much much needed pattern to a mono heavy rc last night. Love it
BETTE MIDLER
REEM ACRA
