The Hundred Years War

I was right here - Neil was still teaching - memory is still bright, crystal clear, heightened.

This is full out me, but I do not understand the hyper chest beating patriotism of this day. An intense sadness for all that was lost that morning, a commitment to something - volunteering, taking cookies to a fire station, something for the greater good. But to just let this day devolve into some second rate 4th of July is just not what should happen.

This flag is in the park behind our house, it's been on the k+b many times, and it is at half staff for a police office that was killed in the line of duty here last week. His funeral was yesterday, the first office to die this way in the Rochester area since 1959. It was a massive shock with a huge outpouring of people - the funeral had to be held in the local hockey areana to hold everyone. Thousands of first responders from all over North America.....

So that, along with the Presidents speech last night led me to a little of a news black out - which I seem to be doing more and more these days. But to hear these always old white guys going on and on about more and more war - exact retreads of the noise from 13 years ago. Much of it from the exact same older grayer NOT wiser heads.

It all ties into turning this day into the star spangled Arab ass kicking holiday that it is becoming, which is just a horrible thing. Fuzzy days ahead, and the heads that I once saw as so cool tempered are listening to the drum beats of war , leading us down the exact same path as before.....
