Jee-zus, Tony!

Our Lord and Savior earned his Actors Equity card last night, as he was onstage or at least talked about during every other FAST PACED song at the 66th annual TONY AWARDS, hosted - for the third time - by mini god himself :
Neil Patrick Harris

Starting with the obligatory homage to that Broadway ATM machine : BOOK OF MORMON, rolling right into a VERY tight panted Judas doing his Weber/Rice best with Jesus Christ , Superstar. ( with I am sure the new Mama Mia-esque upbeat ending ). Next up were those ALWAYS annoying hippies of Godspell ( hey! Hair made a ton of cash! what other should -only- be -preformed- in- VBS musicals could we bring up ? ) This show with its forth wall breaking vag-a-bons has just always grated my last nerve. Ending up with a somewhat tacked on k+b hear throb Raul Esparza's actually nominated new musical LEAP OF FAITH, there was a whole lot of Jesus going on.....

It was almost a given this years opening could not match last years BEST EVER, but it was very good, NPH can really do no wrong:

TONY FASHIONS
oxymoron or myth?

For those not living in the tri-state area, your Tony's I'm sure started at 8:00, as you rushed to clean up the kitchen during commercials of 60 Minutes. For us with NY1, ours started hours earlier as those plucky folks over at ON STAGE did their very best to channel Joan and Melissa, but almost always forgetting to ask,
" who are  you wearing ? " .The thing at the Tony's , for the most part, these are  working actors, who just finished up their Sunday Matinee a couple of hours ago. Sure CBS tries to chuck in some of its television! stars as filler, but these folks are always over dressed, and just look out of place. SO, fashion show, not so much - as always there are exceptions.
NOT to say that everyone - with the now and forever exception of Francis McDormand's horror fest from last year - does not look lovely:

  •  #1 Cynthia Nixon, Actor. Hair growing back from a stint in WIT. She does the " I'm not just SATC very well. But, her new wife has got to stop wearing that exact same tux that every boy in WBHS wore in 1977. I am ALL for being a proud lesbian union organizer - please God in my next life, but really - no need to keep beating that dead horse.
  • #2 Bernadette honey, ( in what must be Zac Posen - I was wrong, its Donna Karan ) you picked that look like what? 81 ? 82? and it has got you this far? Why mess with prefection ?

 Now here is your Hollywood/Broadway split #2 v #4
  • Jessica Chastain in nude Mario Schwab dress. Lovely yes, but see trying too hard - Hollywood and all. Were Neil and I not SO gay, we would have seen some nipple of something when she was presenting - the internets exploded
  • Our own Judith Light , as gays we en mass, love her, and see, she knows her role - Broadway - quirky, flowy, comfy ( she also won )

exact same here :
#1, rock star, #2 working Broadway actor . ( #4 winner )
Like Helen Lawson said " Broadway doesn't go for booze and dope " or in this case too much flash, hair and skin.

One other thing, and I know that Candice here has had some health issues, bless hear heart. Glad she is healthy enough to be back on the boards. And yes, you did just finish your Sunday show, but come on, at least try a little. You are still rolling on those Murphy Brown bucks, try a little harder. Just as an example,
The First Lady here, k+b fav: Stockard Channing is two years older than you.. and brought it! Part of Candice Bergen's problem is that she was so jaw droppingly off the charts beautiful.. not that she still is not, but in this post Maude get up, with that hair ?
