SCOTUS WATCH

Ok, it is sad how little I was caring about the first Monday in October this year, as the robed nine all gathered back there in Washington. We are figuring out day to day what happens to the single issue voter when that single issue HAPPILY goes away. BUT that is short sightedness by me. Yeah, I've got mine, but the majority of Americans don't. And there are other cases to be won.

Meet Crystal Dixon, who in 2008 was the human resources director for the University of Toledo. She read a pro gay op ed in the local paper and chose to respond. An excerpt from her op ed: "As a Black woman who happens to be an alumnus of the University of Toledo's Graduate School, an employee and business owner, I take great umbrage at the notion that those choosing the homosexual lifestyle are "civil rights victims." Here's why. I cannot wake up tomorrow and not be a Black woman. I am genetically and biologically a Black woman and very pleased to be so as my Creator intended. Daily, thousands of homosexuals make a life decision to leave the gay lifestyle evidenced by the growing population of PFOX (Parents and Friends of Ex Gays) and Exodus International just to name a few. Frequently, the individuals report that the impetus to their change of heart and lifestyle was a transformative experience with God; a realization that their choice of same-sex practices wreaked havoc in their psychological and physical lives."

As a private citizen or an academic she has, in my opinion every right to believe what ever she wants. What she wrote  is so bat shit crazy that it is laughable - BUT she was in a position to set policy for the University of Toledo - which has an lgbt non discrimination policy - and so Ms. Dixon was fired from her job.
Instantly making her the martyr de jour for the bible thumping anti gay right. She and her nut job backers lost all their cases knowing that the RC's on the SC would back them. Guess again, this morning the court rejected her case....

Let's think about this . Yeah - it sticks in your craw a little bit - you should have the right to believe anything you want - America, right? BUT , if you are a person who is doing the hiring and firing someplace and you write a newspaper story on how you you find African American/Women/ Jews what ever defective - would we be fine with that ?
This is sort of a HUGE deal - the SCOTUS putting LGBT rights on par with these others....

So much going on right now that this is flying way under the radar , thanks to EVERY ONES pal Louie Crew for the H/t .
