Collapse Into Now to be released next Tuesday, March 8th.

In 1996, R.E.M. signed a five-album, $80 million contract with Warner Bros. Records - at the time, the largest recording contract ever awarded. "Collapse Into Now" is the band's fifth - and last - on that contract, and Mills says that's an interesting place to be. At the time of signing, five albums seemed a pretty long way off. Seems like they'd have more albums, doesn't it? About the time of Up I ceased to listen to them obsessively and don't know those later few very well. Maybe that will be a new listening project.

Pete Buck is a mean person and looks old and fat. The other two have aged beautifully because they are nice people.
