Wedding Watch ( W² ) '11 : The Final Countdown

Nine Days
12 hours
38 min
(as of this typing )

Have you caught the fever yet? Go ahead and program that smart phone to wake you up at what? 4:30/ 5:00 ( e.s.t.) for next Friday Morning.

None other than the old grey lady weighs in this today with a little seemingly more Post like dish about the coming to-do. Almost cracking open the unspeakable dirty little secret that the anointed Windsors need Our Miss Kate, really more than Our Miss Kate needs the Windsors! Lets face it the Royals have been lacking a little star power since " the recent unpleasantness". To quote Edina Monsoon " they need someone with a designer wardrobe and a press following, not someone that looks like she runs up her own "  Then dipping into the question that no one wants to even think about , the Coronation of Charles and Camilla. I mean really, Princess Consort is a bit much for someone as OLD as they will be when it happens. ( full NYT story HERE )

MUCH more enjoyable to think about is Kate's hair, and THE QUESTION
on EVERYONE's MIND :
Will she or won't she wear a SPENCER TIARA ??

We all saw Helen Mirren in THE QUEEN, and we all know that yes, the Royals came kicking and screaming into the cult of Diana, but in the end, MEDIA ( all of it ) is our god now, and Diana was its Queen. Cant you hear the gasps of a few billion women ( and I'm not proud, gay men ) worldwide, IF Cathrine steps out of that...... car wearing this ? Now IF it is too much for stodgy old Charles and Camilla to deal with, it turns out there are TWO Spencer family tiaras!
 THE Spencer family tiara
which she SO should wear
The Spencer Family " honeysuckle" tiara
which does have some very Price of Wales looking fleur-de-lis

Part two
in which Kate gets schooled
and we learn a new word

In the same NYT story, we learn of a little pre wedding ladies-who-lunch outing for Queen to be Cathrine and her future Mother in law, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall (meaning that Camilla will curtsy to Kate.. you know, making Thanksgiving a little dicey ). "The sense of her  ( Camilla ) having achieved insider status in the family, at least with the younger generation, was enhanced when she was photographed this year emerging from a tête-à-tête lunch with Kate in a London restaurant, where she was overheard amid peals of laughter urging the bride-to-be to follow royal tradition — and Diana’s precedent — by wearing a jeweled tiara at the wedding, something Ms. Middleton apparently thought was too fusty for her taste.

Fusty : ( British ) • impaired by old age or dampness
                                 • saturated with dust and stale odors
                                 • rigidly old fashion or reactionary

Sure we could figure out what fusty means, but good to see it in print. Word on the street was that Kate was all about being young and fresh with flowers in her hair. Let's all hope that she listens to the powers that be on this one.
One last thing before we move on to hats. What on earth is up with the haters??!? I mean, I really do not get it, if you go to the comment section of the NYT story the first one is " who gives a crap" ? Which is fine if you think that way, don't watch, don't read about it, don't give it a second thought, but YOU care about it Shawn NH, you care enough to use one of your free ( or maybe you already pay, I don't know you that well ) New York Times articles AND you left a comment on it... Hate all you want, but why do you think you have to take us with you??? Just lack of good home training.....

Kate and the best man to be
she, in a Philip Treacy hat.

A Paisley Dodds of Huffpo [ and who must read the k+b ] has jumped on the millinery band wagon with  : "LONDON -- France has the beret, while America has the humble baseball cap.
But Britain's love of hats is in a different stratosphere. Bowlers, baker boys, top hats, boaters, deerstalkers and countless ladies creations have been worn by royals and commoners alike through the centuries – a beloved tradition that will be in full force at Prince William and Kate Middleton's April 29 wedding.
Bookmakers are already betting on the color of Queen Elizabeth II's hat – odds are on yellow – and the designer making the princess-to-be's honeymoon headpiece. The salmon-colored tricorn hat that Princess Diana wore as she left for her honeymoon in 1981 spawned hundreds of copies.
"When people think of hats, they think of her majesty the queen," designer Philip Treacy, who is making some hats for royal wedding guests, told The Associated Press on Monday. "They're exciting hats to make, because hats and royal weddings are both about magic, happiness and a sense of celebration." ( the rest )

Important info is coming in fast and furious as we get closer, I will do my best to be your center of all things royal for the next , now, nine days, eleven hours and some odd minutes...
