Hillary and the City

Dahn, Neil and I strapped on our slinkiest Manolos yesterday and headed out to see SEX AND THE CITY. Did the Indian Buffet first, so we were all primed. Dahn and I loved it, ( a tiny tiny bit too long, but that could have just been the kadi pakora repeating) Neil hated it like a bad trip to the dentist and thought it was a sure sign that the country is going to hell in a hand basket and Jesus will be back, just any day now. So, it was pretty much just as things should have been! If you like the show, you will like the movie.
My big question is : " why all the hate" ?  If you don't like SATC, don't go to the movie. Really, some of the reviews of this little movie that could, just get down right personal and ugly. sound familiar? Lets just examine what , the plus size ( I'm sure she is.  yes!  size-ism coming from a fat man.. if the moo moo fits, wear it!) reviewer for the NYT chose to say about it

"Back in Season 3 Carrie asked, “Are we getting wiser, or just older?” The ideal, of course, is to do both. There is something depressingly stunted about this movie; something desperate too. It isn’t that Carrie has grown older or overly familiar. It’s that awash in materialism and narcissism, a cloth flower pinned to her dress where cool chicks wear their Obama buttons, this It Girl has become totally Ick."
The Girls doom was predicted early on, "there are no women who go to movies!, they are only for the young and hip." The fab four strutted out on Friday and promptly kicked Indian Jones ass at the box office, to be #1 for the weekend. Sort of sounds like: " Those red neck chicks in West Virginia and Pennsylvania don't vote or for that matter count...."
Carrie has a heavy black ROTARY PHONE ( yes , Susan, I want my phone back!). Carrie does not text! an anathema to the freaks who spend all their time hunched over their little god boxes trying to connect to a world when they could just .. be connecting. You can almost sense a "younger -older divide" here, again, sound familiar?
Movies have always been a lovely escape , Fred and Ginger during the depression, Disney for ever, on and on... Girl meets boy, Girl loses boy, Girl gets boy back.. with some FANTASTIC fashion montages. Lighten up people.. have another Cosmo.
The powers that be are saying that BIG NEWS is coming down the pike from NEW YORK tonight. It may be a big cosmo night, here in Mendon.
