The New York Eight

One what was the GAYEST ( with rainbows and boas.. much to come later ) Night that the Empire State has seen in a very long time, we get this long little update on the state of marriage equality in the state from this mornings NYT. There are three Democratic and five Republican Senators that have yet to say yea or nay to the as of yet unsubmitted bill. Read the whole thing HERE.
But I just want to talk about one little snippet of it :
As he weighs how to vote, Mr. Alesi, 63, a Republican from suburban Rochester [ and my Senator ] and the longtime owner of a commercial laundry company, has spoken with proud parents who want their gay children to have the same rights as their straight children. And he has heard from some opponents of same-sex marriage who are the despondent ex-husbands and ex-wives of gay people.

One of them told Mr. Alesi that a spouse’s surprise admission of homosexuality had torn apart the family. Why, this person asked, would the senator want to inflict more pain by legalizing same-sex marriage?

“It’s very emotional,” Mr. Alesi said.

Wait... so some guy or girl, got married, cause you know, that will CURE the gay in you.... lead a pretty horrible life being in the closet like that, got up the courage to be honest with his or her ( I am so betting from this comment  that it is a gay woman and a bitter man ) and comes out, causing stress on the family - as it would. BUT, this person should be punished for the rest of their life ???  Pain on who ??? A very odd voice for Senator Alesi to be listening too.
