Summer Time

These lilies are like the size of dinner plates.
 Neil's new waterfall!

Kiara is here for a week.

New Word Alert!

MAN! I really enjoy these almost TOO much!

From this mornings NYT, a story about a giant drilling machine:
"It is a gargantuan drill that has been hollowing out tunnels for a train station under Grand Central Terminal. As tall as four men and with the weight of two whales, the so-called cutter head — the spinning, sharp-edged business end of a tunnel boring machine — is usually extracted, dismantled and sold for scrap when the work is done.
But the Spanish contractor overseeing the project is taking a different approach. It believes it can save time and money by simply leaving it behind, dormant and decayed, within the rocky depths of Midtown Manhattan. The drill’s final resting place: 14 stories beneath the well-tended sidewalks of Park Avenue.
There is little precedent for such a Brobdingnagian burial. No one at the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, which plans to officially entomb the machine sometime this week, can recall such an interment. “It’s like a Jules Verne story,” Michael Horodniceanu, the authority’s chief of construction, said."  (the rest)

MARRIAGE EQUALITY COMES TO
ROCHESTER , NEW YORK.

Not in theory, not on paper, but real flesh and blood,  mostly lesbians waiting in a long line in the hot ( for Upstate New York ) sun to get their marriage license!
The city government went out of their way to welcome everyone to City Hall yesterday, flying rainbow banners from all the power polls, plenty of very helpful staff out talking with people, just really making the day a true celebration.
A nice surprise walking up to City Hall, in downtown Rochester.
All the local media, couldn't sling a gay cat and not hit a clergy member of some church, just there to show support
You cant really tell from these pics, but very much a party atmosphere, music playing, folks sort of dancing around, bubbles in the air. No protesters at all, their rally of anti love was in a different part of town, at 3:00. The choice was made by the powers that be  to ignore them and just focus on the joy of the day, which is REAL easy to do after you have won, outright!

Father Michael in his work drag and his band of Two Sainters, there to hand out water, and just be good citizens of downtown, and Neil.

There was money to be made! God bless America.
The staff here at City Hall came in on a Sunday and waived any over time , just to help the couples getting married out.
My good pals Dan and Grady were on tv getting their marriage license in the little suburb of Brighton, but I have not yet been able to find the news clip online.

Todd and the Head Lesbians, Bess and Anne, along with the folks at the Downtown Presbyterian Church ( which is right across the street from City Hall )  did a WONDERFUL job of organizing things yesterday. As a rule in New York there is a waiting period after you get your license, but that was waived yesterday , and folks could see judges that volunteered their time there in City Hall, or go across the street to the Church where many religious folk of all ilks were there waiting to help you. Punch , cookies, cake and birdseed, the community really came out to honor these folks and just give support. There was a little story along with Dan and Grady about a mother and daughter that went out in their yard and made all these  pretty little hand tied bouquets and boutonnieres for folks getting married over in Brighton, a straight mom and child who just wanted to be a part of the great wave of good feelings that was just in the air yesterday.
It was just a lovely day. About the minor flea speck protesters yesterday... Crack your cheeks all you want, fools, lay down and kick in the candy aisle, you will never ever be able to beat THIS ( really, click on this one , if only for the smile you will get...)

Found the video of Dan and Grady!

and you shall be known by the company you keep...

Always a turd in the punch bowl, Professional haters, Maggie and Rubin staged themselves a ..... a, ummmm, prayer rally today , to make up down and black white. They lost, there is not way in New York State to overturn the marriage law. We are not some hippy dippy granola ass California with their wimpy ass ballot initiatives. Marriage equality is a done deal in the Empire State. It is called a Republic you simi illiterate buffoons.

NOM under their little sobriquet " Let the People Vote " forgot to double check their guest list, and look who came to their hate fest! The great grand daddy of filth rockers, to know them is to hate them , hailing from the great state of Kansas : The Westboro nutjobs and their colorful , NEW YORK loving signs.

Exactly what we need, for Maggie and Phelps inbreds to at long last come together in folks minds. Good job NOM. Do you think Maggie will be joining them picketing military funerals? Good job!

Rubin Diaz is a harmless bitter old fool, we pity him too much to even laugh at him anymore. We do feel sorry for his constituents.

gay, gay, gay, gay, gay, gay, gay, gay, gay

Niagara went rainbow last night for all the folks in New York getting married today!

All of Western NY is hoping that all the new weddings in the state will pump some much needed cash into the American side of the falls, which is a pretty sad area . ( the best views are in Canada...)

The New York Times is jumping on the SSM bandwagon, with Weddings section going all out this morning. Not only is the cover couple two lovely ladies, Julia and Alissa, but a whole special issue of Weddings/Celebrations.

Get me to the church on time

Neil's Marriage in New York Eve extravaganza!

We're here. We're Queer
and we have got to find 10 yards of rainbow tulle , pronto!

The one and only time that we will ever do this, BUT, for today, it was called for, and it does look pretty.

 The Ariel view.
No, I was not ready when folks got her,
but the inside of our house is clean for the first time
in a while!
Almost all the photos I took last night look like this, I am not sure why, it was sort of a twilighty time, so I think it confused my flash. So, not that many good pics of last night.
 Michael sticking with the theme....
It was the last of the heat domed afternoons, beer went down smooth!!
" Have a little Priest......"
dinner for 18... this was only round one
The ONLY pic of the salads that I made that came out at all, and there in the center is the big old box of wal-mart plastic forks. Keeping it classy!
from the back
  1. Tabbouleh. Which I made a different way, and will never go back to the way I used too. It is sort of a modified Ina Garten recipe, where you pour boiling water, the olive oil and lemon juice, all at once over the dry bulgar wheat, and let it sit for an hour. I used to boil mine and then add the dressing , this way is SO Much better. I added a good amount of cumin , some dried thyme and some old bay, and loads of black pepper. Everyone ate this up!
  2. Carrot Salad with a honey - cardamom dressing. SO darn good! I fell in love with icy cold carrot salad at the big wedding that Jennifer and I did, so easy that I just redid it here. Carrots, pineapple tidbits, raisins and crasins. For the dressing, .. I should have paid more attention, because it was just righteous. The saved pineapple juice, a good table spoon or more of powered cardamom - which is a spice that I really like to cook with , esp in my curries etc, but the pods are $$$$  so look for the dried powder in your bulk spice section -lime juice, pinch of salt, cinnamon, and just a little bit of mayonnaise. Mix, then add teaspoonish of honey, taste for sweetness... you can always add more. A little heat , with the lime and the sweet... very good. Don't dress the veggies till 10 min or so before eating..
  3. Summer Potato - Corn Salad. Ok, this one  you WILL be taking to your next little cul-de-sac pot luck thing. Five pounds of basic red potatoes, cut in bite size pieces. Toss in olive oil, salt and pepper. Put on a sheet of heavy duty foil and top with a few slices of lemon, cover in foil to make a packet, and roast at 375ish for an hour. Let cool a bit ,then add a bottle of Trader Joe's corn relish, mix and add a good hand full of chopped parsley. I tossed in a little olive oil right before serving.PERFECT for hot weather, and no one has to know how easy. Really, this was a keeper.
  4.  Italian Green Salad My little market here in Mendon and Wegmans have had what I call rocket for the past few weeks. It says baby Arugula on the clamshell, same thing. This is another EASY Summer salad. Same one I made for Roja's dinner the other night. Take a big baggie, add 2 cans of rinsed garbanzo beans, one can of chopped roasted red peppers , sliced into strips, and a can of black olives.. sliced, not sliced, go crazy. Grate in a little bit of garlic, salt, pepper, Olive oil, and a good slug of balsamic. If I had some fresh basil I would have added it. Let this sit for about an hour, then just put in the middle of a pile of the lightly dressed ( lemon juice and olive oil ) rocket. Everyone just eats this up, and it is very pretty.

Brad and Carl, just back from their annual
retreat at Chautauqua.
Jack and Linda, who were our best people when we got married!
This was not good, so, let's just don't talk about it
I also made a couple of

These are always a big hit, but I forgot that I add A LOT of lemon and lime zest when I made these pies, other wise they are just a tad overly sweet. Easy to make as well, you just have to remember to do it the night before.

DADT IS OVER , Baby Love,
Bring on the dancing boys.....

It happened yesterday ( well, there is a 60 day waiting period, a smack from beyond the grave from Senator Byrd ), and so much was going on there that I did not have time to bring it to you , my faithful reader. CELEBRATE! Gays in the Military, and squirm a little uber liberal Obama deniers.. the man did what he said he would do!  Let's drop in on the enemy and see how they are taking their total defeat:

OH, these poor poor Christian military chaplains, having to possibly go against the tenants of their faith, the pressure they must be under , to live up to the example that their Lord and Saviour set for them.

27But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you,
28Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you.
29And unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloak forbid not to take thy coat also.
30Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods ask them not again.
31And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise.

Red letters folks, its VBS time, yall know what the red sentences mean.! You Champlain's are IN THE ARMY/NAVY/AIRFORCE/MARINES, busting stuff up and killing people, not giving them your coat and turning the other cheek.. BUT, allowing Gays in the Army is too hard for you to wrap your pea size brain around??

too darn hot

Heat wave in late July , and it's big news. They say, it was the hottest day here since 1953. It really did feel VERY hot and humid today. It would have been a hot day for Atlanta! I was up early this morning, because I had mow the lawn, because we are having a Eve of Marriage in New York cook out on Saturday! Things were going along well, then I hit a rock or something and bent some metal thing, which took a couple of hours for Neil and I to bang back into place, I started mowing again, but it was just too darn hot.

LOOK at what we are going to get here in Mendon this week!

and the smiley weather guy said if we do not get the little showers on Thursday, we  will be easily up to 100. SO! rare for Lower Ontario.

She's a wonder...

Spent the morning along with all the other Fox " News " haters lost in the duller than drying paint Murdoch hearings before Parliament. A little too British for , even Anglophile Kyle, and in the end, I just did not really care... until some dill weed with a death wish decided to whack Rupert in the face with a shaving cream " pie".

Enter the Dragon Wendi Deng Murdoch

Now, Ms Deng-Murdoch is NOT having a good week, seriously. She is the producer of a new movie coming out, Snow Flower and the Secret Fan - and NO one has been talking about it. She is married to a man, almost 40 years older than her - and HE Lost like 3 BILLION dollars this week as Newscorp stock was tanking on the heels of the scandal. So, when this bozo comes at her man with this pie, Wendi went off on him! She had been sitting behind him, the entire time, listening very intently, involved, and like lighting was UP and all over the attacker.... no pale pink Jackie getting the hell out of that car in Dallas, Mrs Murdoch, was up in a flash and running towards the pie thrower. An ex volley ball player , she spikes the " pie " and then smacked the shit out of the soon to be jailed for a long time " comedian ".

I can't find a good embedable clip so just watch HERE.

A First

Yesterday was San Diego Pride and for the first time ever anywhere, out and proud CURRENTLY SERVING military men and women marched in the parade.
From the AP : SAN DIEGO  -- About 200 active-duty troops and veterans wearing T-shirts advertising their branch of service marched Saturday in San Diego's gay pride parade with American flags and rainbow banners, marking what is believed to be the first time a military contingent has participated in such an event in the U.S. Many of the active-duty troops said they were moved to come out because it is time to end the military's ban on openly gay troops. The march comes a day after a federal appeals court reinstated "don't ask, don't tell" but with a caveat that prevents the government from investigating or penalizing anyone who is openly gay. ( the rest )

Kyle + Pride

I have not done this for a few years, but with the marriage vote, and the possibility of cake, I went with Neil to be a part of the Episcopal group.

It was a fine afternoon, you just miss it all when you are in the darn thing. Lt. Governor /ex Mayor of Rochester - way pro gay - the very tall Bob Duffy walked to what I read was thunderous applause. Our good pals the Head Lesbians, who really did work tirelessly for Marriage Equality were the Grand Marshals, which was a good thing. Jim Alesi did not show up, which was a little odd, cause he would have been a rock star

Yesterday, in Mendon.

We are in a rut of perfect Summer weather, warm sunny days, cool, light jacket, Summer nights.

Things are getting a might dusty, we could use some rain.
