born in the U.S.A.

Today, in Maine, Washington state and Kalamazoo ,Michigan, the people are voting on whether someone who is Chinese can get married to someone who isn't. No, wait, that's not it. Today in Maine , Washington state and Kalamazoo, Michigan the people are going to the pols to decide on if their neighbors daughter can marry that nice Jewish kid from down the street, you know, it's really all about the children and all. Or is it left handed blond haired guys wanting to marry ambidextrous red heads? It is something like that.

People, who .. well, are not YOU are deciding on just who you are going to be allowed to spend the rest of your life with , under the law. How nice of them. I sometimes think it is hard for even the most well meaning breeder to really understand what it is like to have your.... being, thrown out there for public debate. You have this right and that right... and really it is not something that you give much thought to, I mean, hey, it is YOUR Country and Government , why wouldn't " it" want the best for you.

So really, in Maine, and Washington state and Kalamazoo, Michigan the people are going to the pols and voting on whether some people can have their spouses health insurance, whether some people can have the house they live in if their spouse is killed in a car wreck on the way home from work today, and if they will ever see their own kids again after this tragic wreck. If they will suffer alone with cancer in a hospital room , because the person they have lived with for 30 years is not their family. Other people that are NOT YOU are deciding this today......

One year ago tonight, as the champagne corks popped and the car horns tooted, a big swatch of this country was scratching its head. Some folks in the U.S.A. had one right when they got up that morning, and were going to lose it as they went to bed that night, because they were not deemed worthy by their neighbors. So , like I wrote one year ago, it was a bitter sweet night for us. Yes we shot off some fireworks and drank a toast to he new President, and the hope that he did then, and still does offer us in his office, but it was tempered by the kick in the teeth that was Prop 8 out in California. We can hope for a better outcome tonight....

No HUGE races going on today, Atlanta and NYC are voting on their mayor, New Jersey and Virgina are getting new governors. A little bit of a vote on marriage equality in New Jersey as Corize is VERY pro same sex marriage, and his GOP rival is not. The soap opera that has been the New York 23erd will empower the nutjob crazy right, for a bit. Give King Glenn a chance to beat the I -told-you-so drum for a few days, but in the end the little bonfire of vanities that the right wing is going through will only come back to burn them.

We are off to vote, Mendon town officers, VERY important, and we will get cookies. I am going on a little news black out for a few hours, but I'll blog all about today's results later on.
