Tomorrow belongs, tomorrow belongs......redux.

I have a stupid head cold, so I was a little bit out of it today , and was late to the Annunciation. I had read in the newspaper that Governor Palin was going to arrive at Seven O'Clock,.. I was on time, she was early. As I drove towards the book store, the traffic just stopped down the road from a big country club miles from the Borders. Also, there was one of those giant Kleig light things spinning on the clouds in the distance , in what looks like the general area of the signing.

"Damn, this is going to be a circus!" thought Kyle.

Not so much, more like an early Holiday party or big wedding at the club, traffic picked right up. This is a very busy street here in the Rochester area, restaurants, fast food, shops, and a big mall/walmart/target etc.. so, for Sixish on a Saturday night, there was not really that much traffic , at all. I pull in the strip mall on the opposite end thinking that parking would be an issue.... ummmmm... ok, again, not so much.

SARAH! SARAH! SARAH!

Like I said, she was early, so I missed her arrival, I am sure the mostly geriatric crowd went 11 year old at a Miley Cyrus concert, wish I had been there. This is as close as I got to the Governor. Not at all the crowd that I was expecting or had really been reported by the newspaper. BIG and VERY ( seriously....) HAPPY to be there, just not massive. Women old enough to know better climbing up on garbage cans to get a better picture of her inside the store.
Maybe a lot had already signed and gone, I don't know, but it was not out of control at all. All seemed nice, friendly, polite. I just walked around and eavesdropped on conversations. My stupid camera was out of batteries, so I did not get many pictures!! I heard one 55ish lady over the moon because she had met Piper in the ladies room. " I will never wash this hand again" was almost out of her mouth.
The expected topics, every tv station in town had a mobile truck out there and there was all the pro Fox chit chat going around. One man was most proud of himself for telling the little ABC camera man that he worked for the Obama Network. He also said he told the Fox news crew to make sure to tell O'Rilley that he really stuck it to the ABC guy. Every once in a while someone would get up on the tiny little raised platform and start the SARAH! SARAH! SARAH!

KEEP YOUR ROSARIES OFF MY OVARIES

Young Alex gets his protest on. This is Rochester, we have lesbians here who can get 50 people out to protest , with fresh hot homemade vegan chocolate chip cookies and an ASL interrupter in thirty minutes flat. These are not ladies that you want to mess with. I'd say 40ish people, mostly college kids, being American. Chanting, having a good time, there was a tuba. I would like to know if other cities have had protests. One older guy, thinking I was one of the other side ( people ALWAYS think I am with the other side...) struck up an odd conversation, beating around the bush. Newbies.....

FAME! I"M GONNA LIVE FOEVER!

This is the Sarah Palin impersonator that was walking around, sorry I did not get a better picture, I think she was charging for them. She is from Ohio.. I guess she goes from event to event. There was a guy walking around selling old McCain/Palin buttons, along with the usual Obama is a socialist ones. The top picture here is the little slice of Palin, inside the store, that you could see from the sidewalk, and I really was afraid someone was going to get hurt, as they clammed to get a photo. They are PASSIONATE, but there just are not that many of them. There were some tea-bag buttons and t-shirts. Lots of anti Obama bumper stickers in the parking lot, but people in line that I heard were only giddy to be seeing a star, not so much all angry and pitchforky, at all. Really, it could have been just another NEW MOON opening. The crowd was much older, 99.99% white. ( there were two Asian children) .

I AM WOMAN, HEAR ME ROAR

One thing that just fascinated me was the number of "Rosie the Riveter" and " You Go Girl" buttons on ladies jackets. Girl power.. with some bone density issues. Really? I mean, I am sure these women would not have crossed the street to see Hillary Clinton, other than to spit, but they are all fired up for their gender over Governor Palin ?? Could this come to be a problem for the left? How many of those crackers of the glass ceiling could the Palin-Beck campaign bring along with them. We are anti ERA, want to control your body, and you know are all about the traditional family and all, but ...... feminist???
I did not see any of the anger that I saw at the mostly male " town hall meeting" that we went to this summer, but it could have been there before the Governor arrived, they were just lulled into a happy place by seeing their leader up close and personal. I am paranoid, I see the religious right and the red state boogie man around ever corner, BUT tonight I got much more of a sense of crotchety old grandmother , that you would slip an extra nerve pill too so she would just go to sleep and leave you alone sort of vibe. Not really something to fear, but I could be wrong.

cold in my node...
