I have NOT been a good blogger as of late. I think that it has just been a case of Winteritis... cold and grey do not make one want to let lose with ideas on this and that. A lot has happened...

Neil has jetted off, again, this time do DALLAS, for the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force on Creating Change. The Rochester airport was rocking at 6a.m. , but I was not all awake when we left the house , and left my camera...

Don't Ask, Don't Tell

For the first time since 1994 the the US SENATE is holding hearings on D.A.D.T. ( live right now, at C-span 3 ) The President got the ball rolling in a big way in his State of the Union speech, claiming he wanted the discriminatory policy gone by the end of the year. This is a HUGE first step. Let's hope for the best.

Ya'll know that I am in high cotton getting to watch how the sausage in Washington is made. How wonderful it is to watch loads of old white men say that gays are icky, and you know, you don't know who is going to be watching you in the shower. In-fucking-sane.

House bill 1283 is already in the works to overturn it... how WONDERFULLY rich it would be if the tea-bag wonderkind Senator Brown was the one to overturn DADT. A little live blogging:

• Senator Collins ( R-Maine ) is asking questions now - and she is not towing the God Hates Fags mentality of the mainstream GOP. May not need the Massachusetts boy wonder
• Senator Lieberman coming out in favor of overturning the policy as well.
• HA! there we go... Chairman Levin just gave a little road map as to how our side will not need the magic 60 votes ..
• Senator McCaskill just asked Sec. Gates and Adm Mullen : " how will you be able to ask gay and Lesbian's serving the the Armed Forces now , what they think on lifting the policy ?" Cause , you know, to ask them would be to kick them out....
• Senator John " my wife and daughter are bat shit crazy , I hate the gays!!" McCain, hit the nail right on the head when it comes to the right wing talking points to lifting DADT : " what sort of legal relationships will the Armed Forces recognize ?" or something just like that. Let's think about that for a minute. Captain John Smith stationed at Camp Dodge, Iowa, wants to marry Chuck Jones , ( I mean, come on they have been together for 13 years! ). Mr. Jones becomes an Army Spouse, and therefor can get all those federal benefits that come with that.... making Maggie's head explode, and pulling one more plug on DOMA...
• AND just as quickly as it started, it is over... no news really other than Sec. Gates starting a year long study... blah, blah, blah. Well, maybe Senators Collins an turncoat Joe being a little friendly to the position was news.
• HEY! My pal Dan Choi went up to the chairman afterwards and said Hello. ( C-span left the cameras rolling...) Sec. Levin knew who he was, that is a good sign.

You know, it is a start.
