They are just the folks!
Andy , and Aunt Bea, Opie and that drunk guy ... that is who the TEA PART set is! Just the down home , salt of the earth type folks , who just love Governor Palin, want less government and to pay less taxes, that's it. Norman Rockwell with some curbs on entitlements. Now, really, what could be the harm in that?
As the old guard GOP falls all over itself to ingratiate itself with this mob rule, lets dig a little bit deeper into what these folksy folks really want.
A poll of what exactly the GOP/FNC/Tea Party set believes in:
yes / no / unsure
Should Obama be impeached? - 39/32/20
Was Obama born in America? - 42/36/22
Is Obama a socialist? - 63/21/16
Is Obama an anti-white racist? - 31/36/33
Should your state secede? - 23/57/19
Should gays be in the military? - 26/59/19
Do you support gay marriage? - 7/77/16
Should gays be allowed to teach? - 8/73/19
Should schools teach creationism? - 77/15/9
Do you think abortion is murder? - 76/8/16
Here is all the who/why/what and how of the poll . I LOVE this sort of stuff, can spend hours just swimming in useless facts. If you have some time, dive in, there is A LOT more information in the poll. Lets hit the highlights!
- Should President Obama be impeached?
- Was President Obama born in America ?
- Should your state SECEDE from the Union ?
And now we come to the part that really affects Neil and I. Me, my life.. put out there for you to vote on.
- Should Gays be allowed in the military ?
- Should Gays be allowed to marry ?
- Should Gays be allowed to teach ?
- ( this one is buried in the poll) Should Gays be allowed ANY State or Federal benefits what so ever ? 11/68 /21
Yeah, that one hits a little bit too close to home, since I witnessed parents lining up and all but fighting to get their kids INTO Neil's classrooms. I would love to have a conversation with some of these folks on this one.
Let's dig a little bit deeper on this topic, watch this debate from yesterdays HARDBALL with Chris " I really ♥ African Americans" Matthews :
It's long and full of the usual dumbassery, here is the crux:
This SPRIGG fellow is from the Family Research Council, MY Jesus first, your civil rights , waaaay down the list
Matthews: Do you think we should outlaw gay behavior?
Sprigg: Well, I think certainly it’s defensible –
Matthews: I’m just asking you: Should we outlaw gay behavior?
Sprigg: I think that the Supreme Court decision in Lawrence v. Texas which overturned, uh, the sodomy laws in this country was wrongly decided. I think there would be a place for criminal sanctions against homosexual behavior.
Matthews: So we should outlaw gay behavior.
Sprigg: Uh, yes! [laughs]

So, there we have it in a nutshell, 2010, just the folks, think I should be put in jail. Just those harmless real Americans, who only want a limited government and less taxes, and the end to all my rights as a citizen.
I don't think Aunt Bea ever went that far........

Hey, but look at the numbers on straight marriage. A whopping three quarters believe that women are equal partners in a marriage. And while that other 25 percent might be frightening, surely it shows that it has become unacceptable to think otherwise. We’ve come a long way baby. So far, in fact, that only half think contraception should be outlawed! And they’re pretty much all for letting us bring home the bacon – long as we’re the ones who fry it up and feed it to the kiddies.
Damn.
My first thought was that this was a poll of the most reactionary Republicans. But it seems the only criteria was self-identified Republican. And it seems a valid piece by a reputable firm (even if it was commissioned by a notoriously liberal Web site).
I hope there’s an explanation and that this is not really representative of those who call themselves Republicans.
Because some of it is really frightening. Only a little over half say their state should not secede? A quarter think Obama “wants the terrorists to win”?
These are not our fathers’ Republicans. Really, do you think this represents the beliefs of George H.W., or even Reagan?
