D.A.D.T. : " The End Is Near "

From the Army Military News - like the real website of the Army - and they are breaking the new rules that are coming up about DADT. Here's the Army list "Top Ten Things Soldiers Need To Know" about the repeal of DADT.

naked vintage GI Joe
1. Accessions & Separations Policies: Upon repeal, the Army will no longer separate Soldiers solely on the basis of homosexual acts, a statement that a Soldier is gay, lesbian or bisexual, or marriage to a person of the same sex. Statements about sexual orientation or lawful acts of gay and lesbian conduct will not be a bar to military service or admission to any accession program. Sexual orientation will continue to be a personal and private matter.

2. Standards of Conduct Apply Equally to Everyone: All Soldiers will be held to the same standard of conduct. All members are responsible for upholding and maintaining high standards of the U.S. Military at all times and in all places.

3. Personal Privacy: Commanders may not establish practices that physically segregate Soldiers according to sexual orientation. Commanders do have the discretion to alter billeting assignments to accommodate privacy concerns of individuals on a case-by-case basis where it is in the interest of maintaining morale, good order and discipline, and is consistent with performance of the mission.

4. Moral and Religious Concerns: There will be no changes regarding any Soldier's free exercise of religious beliefs, nor are there any changes to policies concerning the Chaplain Corps and its duties. The Chaplain Corps' First Amendment freedoms and its duty to care for all will not change. Soldiers will continue to respect and serve with others who may hold different views and beliefs.

5. Benefits: There will be no changes to eligibility standards for military benefits and services. The Defense of Marriage Act prohibits the Federal Government from recognizing any same-sex marriage, so same sex partners do not qualify as dependents for many military benefits and services. A same-sex partner should be treated the same as an unrelated third party (e.g. girlfriend, boyfriend). All Soldiers will continue to have various benefits for which they may designate any beneficiary regardless of relationship.

6. Equal Opportunity: Sexual orientation will not be placed alongside race, color, religion, sex and national origin as a class under the Military Equal Opportunity Program and therefore will not be dealt with through the MEO complaint process. All Soldiers, regardless of sexual orientation are entitled to an environment free from personal, social, or institutional barriers that prevent Soldiers from rising to the highest level of responsibility possible. Harassment or abuse of any kind, including that based on sexual orientation, is unacceptable and will be dealt with through command or inspector general channels.

7. Duty Assignments: There are no changes to assignment policy. All Soldiers will continue to be eligible for world-wide assignment without consideration of sexual orientation. Soldiers assigned to duty, or otherwise serving, in countries in which gay and lesbian conduct is prohibited will abide by the guidance provided to them by their local commanders.

8. Medical Policy: There are no changes to existing medical policies.

9. Release and Service Commitments: There will be no new policy to allow for release from service commitments for Soldiers opposed to repeal of DADT or to serving with gay or lesbian Soldiers.

10. Collection and Retention of Sexual Orientation Data: Sexual orientation is a personal and private matter. Commanders will not request, collect, or maintain information about the sexual orientation of Soldiers.

#5 is the killer here.... serve, possible die for your country, but you know... still not equal....

OSCAR!! OSCAR!! OSCAR!! ( UPDATED ) ( AND THEN UPDATED AGAIN! )

It is late, and we will get to the nitty gritty tomorrow, let's just hit some real quick hightlights:

Clairvoyant Kyle!
Who was it that this morning put on his blog that some actress or actresses SHOULD wear dresses from either of these two collections tonight?!?
" no place for the weak or timid "

Cate Blanchett one of the beautiful gowns from Givenchy Spring 2011 Couture Collection. Lots of folks already have and will go off on this one..... one word to them: ARMATURES! Seriously, this is the definition of haute couture right now.

Miss Anne and and her , I am sure, sore scalp are our Monday morning heroes... stoner dude with her may have sucked, but Miss Hathaway gave her all. Much
more tomorrow about all of her looks. Seen here in a modified piece from what was my favorite collection of Spring 2011, Armani Privé Haute Couture. After her stunning ( my favorite ) Golden GLobe dress AND tonights NINE different looks ( very different ) She is letting Hollywood know that there is a brand new Heather in town......
After the happy two quick pre-taking out the trash and bedtime bitches:
  1. What is possibly up with the few of my homo facebook pals proudly bragging that they are way and oh so too butch to watch the Oscars ? Really queen ? It's like the guys who bitch about drag queens at gay pride and all.... Learn your history boys and if you can't at least respect it, just keep silent.
  2. The Pride of Dunwoody Ryan Seacrest as the ONLY E! corresponded on the red carpet.... HORRIBLE, really, and this is not just common Seacrest bitching. I think he does a swell job at the 300 things that he does do, this should just NOT be one of them. Knows nothing of fashion.... and goes the extra step to prove his straightness by letting us know how little he knows of fashion. A couple of ladies were not even asked about their dresses.....epic fail.
MUCH MUCH MUCH more tomorrow.... I will just add to this post... so check back then, and if you want, let me know some of your favorites...

OK, in the clear light of morning, lets break this down, three parts ,
GO :

THE WINNERS
( you know, the " reason" we are here )

Best Picture - The King's Speech.
Best Leading Actor - Colin Firth, The King's Speech.
Best Leading Actress - Natalie Portman, Black Swan.
Best Director- Tom Hooper, The King's Speech.
Best Supporting Actor - Christian Bale, The Fighter.
Best Supporting Actress - Melissa Leo, The Fighter.
Best Foreign Language Film - In A Better World.
Best Animated Film - Toy Story 3.
Best Song - Randy Newman, Toy Story 3.
Adapted Screenplay- Aaron Sorkin, The Social Network.

These were all fine, no real surprises after all the lead up awards. Melissa Leto was really good ( scary! ) in The Fighter, but I was a section leader of Team Helena Bonham Carter and just at the end, I had pangs of guilt and really wanted Annette Bening to win, just for sort of time put in and all. I would have been happy with Kings Speech or The Social Network as best picture. Full List of Winner ( and losers ) HERE.

THE SHOW

I don't really understand what people want from the Oscars, why is it this show brings out all the claws and knives? Yes, the whole " going for the youth crowd" was probably a mistake.. well, going for the youth crowd AND bringing out a post stroke Kirk Douglas, ( who I thought was fantastic! ) just didn't gel. Anne Hathaway did a lovely job.. singing, dancing, funny, I thought very much in her element. James Franco was pretty much the popular ( stoner ) quarter back goofing his way through the Senior Play, taking all the wanna be cool kids with him. People had online WORST OSCARS EVER within the first half hour.. which it was not. There seem to be ODDLY a lack of big star power.. but that could just be the lack of Brangelina.. who knows. There were draggy parts for sure, the very inconsistent homage to old movies.. The President on screen for a micro second... but overall, I enjoyed it. But, I ALWAYS do, so I am not really one to ask. I did like the overall high -techy stage, it's Hollywood, bring us the magic!

THE FASHION
( the real reason we are here )

Right into the deep end, no water wings,
THE BEST AND WORST OF THE NIGHT.

A little explanation. This is not a fair fight.... Our Winner, with out a doubt is ANNE HATHAWAY.. WHO pulled of EIGHT FANTASTIC LOOKS, but that is the unfair part, she had eight chances to win, but at the same time, she had eight chances to blow it.. and in the end did not. Like I said before, after the GG's and last night, she is now the go to fashinista in Hollywood, not ever a good thing, because all anyone wants to do is knock you off the throne. Enjoy it while you can .

click to " make big "...
None of these looks were " shrinking violets or safe"... and the team that did her hair eight times... amazing!

and the worst, again, with out a doubt: Melissa " F-Bomb" Leo in Marc Bouwer. I can't really think of a time when lace cut outs over gold foil would ever be a good idea..

Just bad on every level there is.

and, the controversy
a look v. FASHION.

THE argument of our time!

RC newbie, Jennifer Lawrence in Calvin Klein, and RC Royalty, Nicole Kidman in Dior. #1, you would be hard pressed to find two different houses, As American as apple pie AND as French as ... well Dior! The thing is, there is no FASHION in Ms. Lawrence's dress. The overall look is about her very impressive body and her VERY well functioning under garments, all  hail spanx! NOT that here is anything , at all, wrong with this... but what are we going for here, a look or fashion?  All the powers that be will be praising the Baywatch look from the rooftops and saying that Nicole dropped the floaty thing... but what are they commenting on?  The overall value of CK v Dior or the entire package ? I do not think that Jennifer is appropriate for her first Oscar red carpet... bring it honey, show us something, NOT just that you have not had a bite to eat in the last four days, and may or may not pass out, any second now. All that said, you are seeing Jennifer Lawrence in this look and you are seeing Nicole's dress ( which I think is fantastic, and LOVED the way it moved when she walked out to present).... like I said, it is one for the ages.....

THE GOOD

  1. Cate Blanchett in Givenchy - fashion forward, beautiful
  2. Halle Berry in Marchesa - walking perfection, MOVIE STAR
  3. Hilary Swank in Gucci -totally on trend, beautiful, loved the jewlery in the hair
  4. Mandy Moore in Monique Lhuillier - stunning on tv, but here is the lack of wattage thing, we are talking about Mandy Moore....beautiful dress
  5. Amy Adams in L'Wren Scott - loved the color, the styling and I loved the accessories.. many do not agree
  6. Helen Mirren in Vivienne Westwood - TLo said it best this morning : "We're used to lauding her red carpet choices, but this may actually be our favorite thing she's ever worn. It gets a little askew at points, especially around her midsection, but the pewter color is simply amazing with her hair. Love the jewelry. An all-around great look and once again Queen Helen of Fuckinfantastica shows those younger bitches how it's done".
  7. Reese Witherspoon in Giorgio Armani - working the Barbarella/these boots were made for walking look... love it, everything about it
THE NOT REALLY SO BAD

Maybe I  just don't like purple
  1. Scarlett Johansson in Dolce&Gabbana - the only horrible one in the bunch, by far the worst hair of the night. Fit is good, weird see throughness and shape... not good.
  2. Natalie Portman in Rodarte - not at all bad, really. This one is her own fault, she raised expectations, and sort of fell short. LOVE the length, and she gets cut some slack for being so very with child
  3. Mila Kunis in Elie Saab - Many are putting this in their tops, bothers me. A little too Stevie Nicks meets Jessica McClintock on the way to the Winder-Barrow prom in 1979, with LOTS of money. Not horrible, just strange.. and the boob tattoo looking lace was just odd.
THE MOST IMPROVED

Sandra Bullock ( right ) in Vera Wang -  In the red last night knocking it out of the park, just one tiny inch below out top few, on the left at the  2011 Golden GLobes.... Our Miss Sandy learned the hard way NOT to use the straight stylist, but came around in a hurry!
Gwenyth Paltrow in Calvin Klein on the red carpet and Gwenyth Paltrow in Michael Kors to preform and go to the parties, on the left with odd mini me, Taylor Swift ( as close as Gwenyth was going to get to an Oscar this night..) . The CK is HORRIBLE, and so many are putting it on their top.. totally screwed with her figure , just did not get it. The hair and make up are horrible in both, but a very good save from a bad dress with only an hour or so so work.

total LOUD earworm

I have no idea why,
have not seen the movie in forever,
but this is on all the speakers
in my head.

losing the battle ( ??? ) winning the war

Athens, Ga. First Baptist.
I looked and looked for a
Winder First Baptist (torn down) photo,
and then an Atlanta First Baptist ( torn down ) photo,
then had to settle on Athens

Joe found this one this morning :

From  Albert Mohler, the freaking President of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, AND he said it on the F.O.T.F. Radio Show :
"When we talk about same-sex marriage, we talk about something that is already legal in one form or another in basically twelve states. So whether they call it marriage, as they do in a few states, or marriage-lite as they have now in twelve states, the reality is that a good number of Americans are living where they're already facing not just the inevitably, but the reality of same-sex marriage. I think it's clear that something like same-sex marriage - indeed, almost exactly what we would envision by that - is going to become normalized, legalized, and recognized in the culture. It's time for Christians to start thinking about how we're going to deal with that."

Wow, this is the true belly of the beast.....

no te metas con Texas

Drudge is letting all the white Texans that their time is just about up this morning, you know, adding to the panic: From the Houston Chronicle : " Looking at population projections for Texas, demographer Steve Murdock concludes: "It's basically over for Anglos."
( the rest, read it, it's an interesting little article )

Panic in the better dresses dept. at Neiman Marcus.....
Not really news I know, BUT, I just wanted to spotlight one of the many comments on the story : [sic]
Konrad4129 wrote:
This illustrates the difference between a culture that contracepts and one that does not. It's very simple. If you have no children, your culture will die. Mexicans, (and immigrants generally) have children. This is a good thing. People naturally should have children.
Contraception has turned Anglos into an endangered species. It is terribly destructive. Fifty years ago it was against the law. Back then, Anglos had children, and we didn't have an illegal immigrant problem.

I am telling you now folks, as I have many times here, when they are done with abortion, and really , they are close to winning that one, they are coming after birth control.... Deal with it ladies, your place is in the home making white babies.

no place for the weak or timid

Welcome to your 2011 Homo Superbowl/World Cup/big flashy nascar race/World Series/Final Four... you get the picture. Our appetites whetted by the little pre game award shows, and our knives sharpened on a brand new princess to be, tonight is THE SHOW.

Tonight is Fashion, capital F.... you either run with the size zero pack or stay on the porch. Looking ( and drinking ) with one of two designers tonight, my two favorite shows from the past year.

or
These are both, sadly, probably safe bets for those that are not looking to get sloshed from the red carpet, the Armani is just too out there and the Givenchy, which is so so so beautiful, has already been broached on the red carpet by the lead singer of Florence+and the machine at the Grammys. ( where her styling was way off ) BUT, I am sticking to my guns... if my buzz is needing a bump or too many colorless blobs march down the RC them we may end up switching to something safer.

Thinking of a little live blogging on the facebook, but will be with other people and that tends to never work, but we will see what we can do. I really need to master that whole twitter thing, but it is just too complex.

And yes, there will be winners and losers tonight... zzzzzz, here at the k+b it is ALL about " will HBC's shoes match? ">

Wisconsin Snapshot

Gallup released a poll earlier this week finding that 61 percent of Americans oppose Walker's plan, versus only 33 percent who are in favor. It turns out Gallup has crosstabs which give us an income breakdown of that finding, which the firm sent my way:

  • Among those who make less than $24,000 annually, 74 percent oppose the proposal, versus only 14 percent who favor it.
  • Among those who make $24,000 to $59,000, 63 percent oppose the proposal, versus only 33 percent who favor it.
  • Among those who make $60,000 to $89,000, 53 percent oppose the proposal, versus only 41 percent who favor it.
  • Among those who make $90,000 and up, 50 percent favor the proposal, versus 47 percent who oppose it.

Only the last, highest-income category favors the proposal; working and low-to-middle class folks all oppose it.

I need to get the long post in my head on the blog here. Let's think about this just for a minute. What is the end game of these politicians, Seriously? You cut back all THE STATE does for its citizens, and de-regulate business back to some smoky 1900 level. SURE, the Koch's are pigs in shit over this, but do the tea bagger politicians get ANYTHING out of this other than that good time in Cali with their overlords???

I mean, he is just sitting around, waiting for baseball season to start, watching all that Kabletown Kash roll in.....

yeah, well, ok, I am a little bit bitter.....

Mamie Eisenhower in the
White House china room
From the NYT : " WASHINGTON — "The White House made history Friday by announcing the appointment of Jeremy Bernard as the first male, and openly gay, social secretary.“Jeremy shares our vision for the White House as the People’s House, one that celebrates our history and culture in dynamic and inclusive ways,” President Obama said in an e-mail statement. “We look forward to Jeremy continuing to showcase America’s arts and culture to our nation and the world through the many events at the White House.” Mr. Bernard, whose new job is equal parts gatekeeper, decorum master, people’s host and implementer of the Obamas’ vision, is already familiar with the first couple. He was an early supporter of Mr. Obama’s candidacy in California, where along with his partner at the time, Rufus Gifford, he helped raise millions of dollars for Mr. Obama." ( the rest )

and THE WASHINGTON POST, with a photo that is just .... well, mean.

homo high holy day

Chicks with..... email accounts

The other size 13 black peek toe pump falls!

Everyone remembers our favorite Western New York slightly pervy  ex-congressman,Chris Lee,  right? You know, one VERY tame shirtless photo virals the internet, and he leaves congress before you can say " I object! ". Raised many an eyebrow that someone with somewhat of a future would toss it away on a scandal that any Kennedy would have dealt with before breakfast....

WELL, turns out that Mr. Lee was all over the craigslist looking for women with a little something extra. From Gawker : " In the past 10 days, two D.C.-area transgender women contacted us, each with a separate story about exchanging emails with the ex-congressman. One sent us an ad that Lee allegedly posted on Craigslist in search of trans women; the other sent us a never-before-seen photo that she says Lee sent her after they started chatting by email. Taken together, they present a possible explanation to those who have wondered why such a tame "sex scandal" forced Lee's hand so quickly." (the rest)

And now we know... the rest of the story....

yesterday, today, and tomorrow...

Cursed, because I dared speak the " T " word yesterday.... Welcome to upstate New York, have 10 - 12 inches of icy blowing snow! enjoy!

off in the distance there you can see the little sidewalk plow that Mendon has. Last night, when Koda and I took out little nightly walk abound out little town, about midnight, the sidewalks were like 90% ice free....

same view I posted yesterday... this time no grass.....

Happy Birthday, Little DJ !

Not that he reads the k+b, but I did tell him HB! on the facebook. No, I really only post this so I can re-post this photo. That, and for good ole Jane, who does read the k+b, to think back on that very special gift that she once gave him.....

GOP HATES WOMEN
JOBS! JOBS! JOBS!

" Oh, no, the teaparty is all about your fiscal responsibilities... those old social issues are so yesterday."
Nothing, these dip shits have done NOTHING since their little tsunami last fall but stop a woman's legal right to be in control of her own freaking body.... seriously. Today it was Iowa and Virginia and Georgia... on my mind.

  • VIRGINIA : From the Washington Post , RICHMOND - Antiabortion activists scored a major victory in Virginia as the state's General Assembly agreed Thursday that clinics where most of the state's early-term abortions are performed should be regulated as hospitals instead of physician's offices. Abortion rights advocates, who have fended off similar attempts in Virginia for two decades, say the new rules could be so onerous that they could force as many as 17 of the state's 21 abortion clinics out of business. ( the rest )   Yes, whereas abortion is legal there in the Old Dominion .. there are only going to be FOUR places for women to get one in the whole 42,774 square miles.
  • IOWA! ( and this one is so freaking twilight zone that it just makes you crazy) From the Iowa Independent via JMG : "Two bills sponsored by Iowa House Republicans could have significant public safety consequences, and perhaps the most unnerving of those potential outcomes would be the justifiable use of deadly force against abortion or family planning providers. When the two pieces of legislation are combined they create a situation where a fertilized egg would be considered a person, and allow for the public execution of those who would threaten such a person. If passed into law, the two bills — House File 7 and House File 153 — would offer an unprecedented defense opportunity to individuals who stand accused of killing such providers, according to a former prosecutor and law professor at the University of Kansas, and are something that might have very well led to a different outcome in the Kansas trial of the man who shot Dr. George Tiller in a church foyer".( the rest ) It is LEGAL TO SHOOT DOCTORS!!  and, really, if the SHOOTER is arrested for you know, blowing away some doctor, the arrested party can sue the police dept!!!! Nebraska is taking up the same law.
  • GEORGIA.... sigh..... Back to House Republican Tin Foil Hat wearing Bobby Franklin. Links from all over... to much to deal with. Uterus Police, really. Any and all miss-carriages have to be investigated by the new branch the government. Yes, and so it goes.

MASSIVELY HUGE SCANDAL

HRH Prince William and soon to be HRH Kate Middleton made their first walk-about - many many to come, for the Princess to be. She looked amazing as she christen her first boat and the folks there in  Wales, loved her.

Now for the scandal! From London's The Daily Mail : "Kate's chocolate-brown bespoke headpiece was handcrafted by Salisbury-based Vivien Sheriff. Designed this year, it is decorated with feathers and military button AND from The Standard : " Kate Middleton wore a tweed coat with brown trim and a feathered fascinator designed by Philip Treacy". We have conflicting reports over who made her hat!!!!

Only kidding, she does look over the top fantastic, we will be coming back to the happy young couple once we get post Oscar.....

Roddy McDowell gives Tab Hunter, and his weinee
a nice cake.
When it rains it pours!

Creaking, creaking along, everyone navel gazing over the question :
Tea Baggers, hate taxes, gays or both?

When just yesterday, right here in the middle of the homo high holy week,  a mini disco damn breaks and lots of good news all at once.

  • ALOHA! Newly elected Hawaiian Governor Neil Abercrombie signed CIVIL UNIONS into law yesterday. A very good thing! The legislature there on the islands had passed the law a couple of times and the then GOP Governor never would sign it. A few loud gays out there all pissy over the civil union thing...... chill brothers! A foot in the door.....( full story from the Honolulu Star Advertiser )
  • Maryland! With their tiny but loud neighbor to the south getting the full marriage thing, The Old Line state, falls in .. well line, and jumps aboard the freedom train. There was a little test vote yesterday, and marriage equality passed 25-22 with the final vote there in the Maryland senate today! Utz's crab chips for everyone!
  • Then yesterdays BIG enchilada! President Obama main boo Eric Holder set a fire under the haters yesterday when they came down with : ( from the NYT )
WASHINGTON — President Obama, in a striking legal and political shift, has determined that the Defense of Marriage Act — the 1996 law that bars federal recognition of same-sex marriages — is unconstitutional, and has directed the Justice Department to stop defending the law in court, the administration said Wednesday.Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. announced the decision in a letter to members of Congress. In it, he said the administration was taking the extraordinary step of refusing to defend the law, despite having done so during Mr. Obama’s first two years in the White House.."The president and I have concluded that classifications based on sexual orientation” should be subjected to a strict legal test intended to block unfair discrimination, Mr. Holder wrote. As a result, he said, a crucial provision of the Defense of Marriage Act “is unconstitutional.” ( the rest )  AND some very good analysis from the feeling much better Andrew...

POWER TO THE PEOPLE

Let's just start this off with saying that Norma Rae lived in Winder for a while, seriously. Union now, union forever... from way back. All this push and pull in Wisconsin is just so much to get my head around, it has NOTHING AT ALL TO DO WITH THEIR STATE BUDGET!!!

Listen, I know you might not really give a hot patootie about freaking unions in some icy state that I don't live in, really, but this is all so, SO, important folks. Not to go all Glen Beck and John Birch Society on yall, really, I don't give people enough credit to form mass conspiracies, BUT, this is the next stop in the  WHAT EVER that started with Citizens United case.....

12 Things You Need to Know About the Uprising in Wisconsin

What's happening in Wisconsin is not complicated. At the beginning of this year, the state was on course to end 2011 with a budget surplus of $120 million. As Ezra Klein explained, newly elected GOP Governor Scott Walker then " signed two business tax breaks and a conservative health-care policy experiment that lowers overall tax revenues (among other things). The new legislation was not offset, and it turned a surplus into a deficit." THE REST  ( please read )

THEN the phone call..... just outright indisputable proof that the Koch Brothers have their hand WAAAAy up Scott Walkers ass... I mean, it is HARD to get proof of stuff like this.... really.

Ok.... Big picture, made really, really small, that is what we here at the k+b try and do. There was a STAND WITH WISCONSIN rally in ATLANTA today. Folks who believe that , as Americans , we have to right to form Unions and Collectively bargain for our salaries and benefits. I will give you my time, you will give me your treasure....
Here are some photos :

in a show of force, Georgia State Patrol officers enter the street to separate Tea Party Patriots from local union supporters.

Betsy Shaw Kramer, left, of Johns Creek, a Georgia Tea Party Patriots and Americans for Prosperity member, tries to get the union supporters' attention.
  1. Really, at least try and not make this so easy : AFP is a known Koch Brothers front group, really.
  2. JOHNS CREEK......google it, Johns Creek Ga, and then just go to image, here are a few of what you will see :

Greedy Union Bastards.
