Let's try and work through this together.

President Obama is where is he BECAUSE of education. He was not born with a silver spoon in his mouth, he had no war to make him a hero, he was not a movie star. As much as any modern President, he is there because of his Hawaii Prep School , Columbia and Harvard. AND, love or hate him, you have to admire how far he has become.

The President and First Lady have two school age daughters, who after their fun summer of Europe, The Grand Canyon and some beach time with their family are doing what every other school age kid in America is doing : shopping and texting! It's back to school time at the White House. A good time for the President of the United States to remind kids that ANYTHING is possible in their lives. Stay in school. study hard, respect your teachers and the sky is the limit . " Just look how far I have gone....."

How on God's green earth did we get to the point in this country where this is a BIG , well big Media driven controversy? Really, can somebody help me wrap my brain around this? Even if you HATE President Obama, you believe that the Government is way to big, spends way too much money and you HATE paying the taxes that you do... I disagree, BUT can understand, your point of view. This is just, at long last, beyond the pale. Are these right wing nut job parents against staying in school and working hard? Do they not want their children to listen to a speech given my an African American? Do they not think that their kids know he is President? 

It has been this long crazy summer where the total fringe has dominated the news. Everyone is their own tv station, their own newspaper... so, the most radical of any opinion can make it to the main stream. Only a very few people went heavily armed to protest health care reform., but we all saw and read about it. I am sure that is is NOT that many people who are livid over their children having to listen to their President , I mean, how many people watch Fox News ? This hall pass at the top here is a real thing sent out by the tea bag set..... just insane....

How we got here is a big question to have to deal with.. and a much much harder one, is how do we get back from this precipice? How to we put the toothpaste of total incivility back in the tube of " what is good for America"? Can anything bring us together as a nation? That One Nation, under God and all.....
