From the Knoxville Newspaper : Louisiana Tech head coach Derek Dooley has been hired as coach at Tennessee.
"We are excited to welcome Derek and Allison to the University of Tennessee family," said UT athletic director Mike Hamilton in a release from the sports information office. "Derek is one of the bright young coaches in America. He understands our league and the competitive environment in which we compete. ( the rest....) Say it ain't so Derek! Not Rocky Top... hard, hard for any of us that bleed red and black to look good in orange! Smart , smart move from the Vols, SEC ethos in a YOUNG coach! Those Rocky Tops will raid any other SEC school, first Peyton and now Derek!
Now, we have been here before from one of the South's high holy families. Mrs. Anne Bowden had this sweater... half FSU, half ClemPson. I'm getting together a facebook group to BEG Barbara to NOT to subject us to one of those! La Tech's loss is Knoxville's gain.
I always saw Derek as picking up his Dad's mantle once St. Mark goes off with Tebow and Urban to do their thing in the jungle. Don't really want to root against a Dooley, and would have been a hoot, if they had changed it to Sanford/Dooley Stadium, but all in all pretty darn proud of local boy making so good!

Heard this am that Derek's middle son is named Peyton. Can you believe it? Must be in the cards.
