The 82ed Annual Welcome Home Redwings Dinner.

Minor league baseball and the American legion.. come on kiddies, we are talking Red, White and freaking Bluest! For 82 years the Monroe County Chapter of the American Legion has been having this dinner. When we first started going it was in the old fun sort of time warpy legion hall.. now its in the exact same hotel ballroom that everything in Rochester seems to be in. ( I wonder if there are others)
This was Tuesday Night and I don't think anything on the planet could have made me leave the house other than this dinner. Jack is sweet enough to invite us every year. Linda was out of town with their brand new grand baby, so it was close to boys night out.
You get there and you wait in line till all of this years players show up, and sign stuff. I'm there for the fresh meat aspect of the whole thing. Some people are super into it, getting many things signed and all.

The boys of summer, signing bats....
We must be moving up in the world, or else Jack got the call in early this year, because out table was front and center.
The Legionaries and elected types are on the other side of the dais, these are all the baseball folks...
Dinner.... tasted just like it looks...
You get a player! Ours is Mr. Cutie Patootie from down under, the pride of Perth: Luke Hughes. He was more than a little bit adorable, and seemingly a very nice guy. Here he is with our new coach...
Who knew there is a jocky straight boy uniform! Somehow i did NOT get the memo. You wear really fancy blue jeans, all sorts of cut outs and over the top stitching... no 501's here, and pressed shirts untucked. Hair care products are important too....
Also, and this was a bit of a shocker... seriously ugly as hell shoes. The white elf shoes are our players. I just don't get it....
A little of the eye candy....
Neil and Luke. It really is a lovely time, and you see the exact same people each year, a sure sign that we made it through yet another upstate New York Winter, and Spring is on its way. It was a very nice day, there have been times with lots of snow left for the dinner. Many thanks to the always wonderful Bishop McKelvey for taking us , again this year.
