And It appears to be returning the love:
A new Siena Research poll finds: By a 53-39 percent margin, voters support the Senate passing a bill to legalize same sex marriages that would virtually ensure its becoming law. Democrats, independent and young voters, and women strongly support Senate passage. Republicans strongly oppose passage, with men, older voters, African Americans, and Protestants also opposed. Support is strongest in New York City. Every region of the state supports passage.
New York State is different from the rest of the country. The majority of the people support marriage equality, the majority of the elected officials support marriage equality, and just a hand full of State Senators, old school Roman Catholic Republicans and New firebrand evangelical Hispanics ( an odd combo!) are standing in the way.
In 2006 now disgraced, but then lionized Elliott Spitzer crushed ( 69% - 29% ) his GOP opponent running hard on FULL MARRIAGE RIGHTS. He talked about it all the time.
These little red counties , two of them out here by me, are very rural agricultural , and the two up in the Adirondacks are very sparsely populated. This is the state wide map that full marriage inclusion gives anyone running for state wide office in New York.
